Editorial Reviews

Review

Ministry of Motherhood is the story of one mother who has dared to go beyond the ordinary in loving, leading, and training her children to follow Christ. In this honest and inspiring book, Sally Clarkson paints a stirring vision of a mother’s mission and challenges women to disciple their children to be passionate, devoted servants of Christ.”
–Nancy Leigh DeMoss, author and host of
Revive Our Hearts Radio

“Biblical, practical, motivational. This inspiring book belongs on every mother’s nightstand.”
–Linda Dillow, author of
Calm My Anxious Heart and coauthor of Intimate Issues

“Here we have a book to substantiate that the ministry of motherhood and the Great Commission are not mutually exclusive, but a complement and catalyst to each other! With an extraordinary blend of humility, challenge, and encouragement, Sally gives an exalted vision to our calling and stewardship as mothers.”
–Debby Thompson, wife and mother with 30 years of ministry leadership, currently with Campus Crusade for Christ, Eastern Europe and Russia

“If you feel like a hamster on a wheel–you’re running, but you’re not getting anywhere–then
The Ministry of Motherhood is for you! Sally Clarkson inspires us to step off that wheel and parent with purpose, not by adding something else to our hectic schedules but by bringing God into everything we do. With down-to-earth, practical examples, she shows us how we, too, can build disciples as we reach our children’s hearts. A very encouraging and easy-to-read book!”
–Sheila Wray Gregoire, author of
To Love, Honor, and Vacuum

“My thanks to Sally Clarkson for her sacrifice and dedication and the example her life has been to me. Through her writings she is able to share some of what God has put on her heart. This book, along with her others, reveals her to be a shining example of one committed to honor God in all that they do. May you be blessed as you read this book and continue this journey we call motherhood.”
–Lynn VanWingerden, wife, mother of 23 children, grandmother of 9

Author takes Extreme Liberty adding to God's Word
This book has some good motherly wisdom to share. Basically, give your children the same grace that God gave to you, but still correct and instruct them. My main issues with it are 1.) the EXTREME LIBERTY the author takes with telling her version of biblical stories to make her points. We are clearly and repeatedly warned against this in scripture and reminded that the word of God is sufficient and powerful (Rev. 22:18-19; Proverbs 30:5-6; Deut. 4:2; Heb 4:12; 2 Tim 3:16-17; John 17:17; James 1:21; Deut 12:32; Romans 1:16; 1 Peter 1:23 etc.) 2.) Some of the stories that she tells about her children seem a little exaggerated. See the example photo of a supposed quote from her 7 year old, which makes me skeptical. The tips in this book could have been put into a pamphlet instead of spread throughout an entire book.

This book was so inspiring. Many times, I would read parenting books. But they typically would normally remind me of self-help books that I would read, kind of like the ones I read before becoming a Christian. Behavior modification, but not getting to the root of it. I would end up with all these facts and information, but with little power to do much about it and then feel frustrated at my inability to follow the book very well. OR they would be very inspiring but kind of whispy and with lots of broad ideas but short on specifics-- more in a poetic way without much realistic examples for clueless people like I was.

This book is an amazing blend of beautifully written, easy to read story-book examples of her own life and experiences with her child, principles/root issues behind behavior stuff having to do with the heart and make me cry a few times. I didn't feel ashamed but I actually felt empowered.

Most importantly, she emphasizes the gospel and not focusing so much on fixing your child than on being an example and discipling/training/talking with them and helping them to become all that God designed them to be as a unique individual and develop their own internal compas led by the holy spirit, so that they are led by the spirit. For if you are led by the spirit, you won't fulfill the desires of the flesh. She writes on how your own relationship with Jesus makes these other things flow so much better. It makes so much sense. So many times you can have all the ideas right, but if you're not operating from a place of Rest with God, they become 100 times harder because the root of the heart is the most important. This lady explains the root and also practical ways of dealing with it and loving your children through it all.

Love the book so far. I bought this book for a book group that some mommies put together. SO far we have gone over the introduction last week. It is a very easy read so far and easy to understand. Aswell as inspiring. This book is great when you read it alone or in a group. I would definetely recommend this book for a mommy to read for herself or as a group reading. I recommend this book to any mommies out there with children of any age. As the book talks about 4 different age children. I have a one year, two year old and 13 year year old and there is alittle bit of every page that I can help incorporate with my children at any age. Love this book and im only on page 50.

This book is fabulous! I *loved* it. It gives great examples of how to direct your kids to live a Christ-centered life. I love her examples and her GIFTS (Grace, Inspiration, Faith, Training, Service)outline. She even gives homework at the end of the chapter -- points to ponder and questions to ask yourself. It inspired me to do things a little differently with my children to make sure they feel God's love and grow their testimony of our Saviour.

Upon completing the book, I felt motivated to do love my kids more. As other reviewers have said, this book inspires, it doesn't give a list of stuff to do that makes you feel like you are falling short if you are unable to do some huge task list.

I highly recommend this book. I plan to reference it often.

This is my favorite parenting book. Part of the draw is the Authors intimate relationship with Christ. You just know it when you see it. She's has a beautiful way with description that touches on who Christ is, who he calls us to be, in an easy to understand way. I find it motivates me to love the Lord and my children with all my heart. I'll be ready this, long after my kids have grown.

This is a good book for any parent that wants to raise their children with gospel-centered principles. I enjoy Sally Clarkson's style of writing. It is easy to read and understand. Chapters are short yet full of information. She is to the point! No extra words or long analogies to wade through. Makes it a great book for a mom with a little one. You can complete a chapter in 10-15 min and feel like you've accomplished something. It's not a few pages here and a few pages there causing you to loose continuity. This will be my new "gift to new mommy" book!

This has been one of the best books I have ever read on being a mom- and I’ve read a lot. As followers of Christ, Sally encourages us to view our children as our disciples, and to follow Jesus’ example in teaching them. She gives very practical tips and examples on accomplishing this, as well as inspiration. It has given me a renewed perspective on raising our children in the faith. I’ve been so encouraged as I read this book! It’s a book I’ll be sharing with my friends and recommend to anyone mom who loves Jesus.

I thought motherhood would be so easy & it just didn't work out that way! I've read many books on parenting. This is THE BEST one I have read. I always see some one comment "This book is a must read for every mom", but this is the first book I have ever read & agreed with that statement. Whether you are on the right track & looking to enhance your relationship with God & your children or you are feeling overwhelmed or insecure about motherhood, this book has very practical and easy to understand information on how to pass on wonderful gifts to your children. This is a great resource!
