From the Back Cover
How do you survive the cultural "tsunami" that threatens to sweep away all signs of biblical Christianity?
How can you hold firm in the midst of moral and spiritual anarchy?
Christians today face incredible challenges to live a lifestyle that honors God. Surrounded by a culture that defines morality by "whatever works for me," you may sometimes believe your best strategy is to retreat, or even surrender. But retreating, surrendering, or merely surviving the forces that attack your faith are not options when you have been called to carry the values of Christ's kingdom into the world.
Author Gary Inrig finds solid answers in the often-ignored Old Testament book of Judges. "Few periods of history are so much like our own as the time of the Judges--at one moment scaling the peaks of glory and at the next plunging headlong into the swamp of sin...The book of Judges is filled with people very much like us--people with God-given potential for greatness and unfailing capacity for catastrophe."
As Inrig shows you the lives of Israel's judges, you'll find heroes with hearts of iron who trusted God, making a positive impact on their times. You'll also discover the spiritual catastrophe that results when those with feet of clay fail to depend on God.
The triumphs and tragedies of people like Deborah, Gideon, and Samson can teach you the principles that will enable you to "live a powerful, productive life in the midst of a society that is increasingly hostile to loyal followers of the One who alone is Lord."

- Reviewed in the United States on December 27, 2013I had a Christian bookstore for 16 years and sold this book over and over. Recommended it for men that like to read...but I also
enjoyed it tremendously. It is a study of Judges but it is well written and applies to today's situations also. I can't find my original book so this is my second one.

- Reviewed in the United States on May 2, 2016This is a fascinating companion to the Bible's Book of Judges. It gives thoughtful insight to the dysfunctional actions of the children of Israel, God's chosen nation, after they have inherited the promised land.

- Reviewed in the United States on December 5, 2016I used Dr. Inrig's book along side a Precepts study and found his book absolutely wonderful in understanding better the book of Judges. It is a "keeper" for my library. Written well and captures your attention as he explains people and events that can be difficult to understand without the extra in depth explanation that Dr. Inrig provides.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 16, 2013I bought this book to help in preparation for a lecture on the book of Judges. Of the resources I gathered, this has been the most helpful. Further, since it uses a "sermon-type" flow, I have referred to it many times when preaching from, or just studying from, the book of Judges.
I do not agree with everything Inrig writes in this volume, but still find it very helpful and well done.
- Reviewed in the United States on June 14, 2015This was a fantastic book from beginning to end. I recommend this book for any student of the Bible. I found many very practical lessons in this book. Lessons that will comfort you but challenge you as well. Even though the events of the book of Judges took place several thousand years ago the lessons we learn are for today
- Reviewed in the United States on November 6, 2019Sorry, couldn't get past the first paragraph of the preface. He uses adn illustration about a farmer and mad cow disease. The disease is an interferon disease and it's not airborne. It it's spread among cows by ingesting the brain and spinal matter of other cows. Stop grinding up dead cows and feeding it to other cows and you stop the spread. Heating or freezing doesn't help either.
For more interesting study, read, "the family that couldn't sleep" by D.T. Max

5.0 out of 5 stars Great insights!!!
This is a great book that correlates the similarities between challenges a believer would face in modern times to the time of book of judges. It gives useful insights that a beleiver should be aware of, to lead a faithful life in today's world that is worthy of earning merit to eternal life.

Not the first time I have read this book. And the second time time is even better than the first. Very well explained on life during this time in history. Nothing is sugar coated, it is told just as it is
