About the authors
A career educator with a uniquely cosmopolitan outlook, Khalid Khashoggi graduated from Princeton University and traveled widely before settling in the New York-New Jersey area. There, he founded Integrated Educational Services, a tutoring company that has helped tens of thousands of students raise their standardized test scores--and attend the colleges of their dreams--since 2001. Determined to share his years of expertise, Khalid founded ILEX Publishing in 2013. Today, students all over the United States use the books in the ILEX SAT Advanced Practice Series to achieve their target scores. Each volume in the series delves into a specific SAT section--math, critical reading, or writing--in a manner that is systematic, straightforward, and enlightening. Today, ILEX continues to expand rapidly into new areas, including unique web resources, and continues to promote Khalid's vision: test prep that works in real classroom situations, that doesn't rely on platitudes and commonplaces, and that gives students the determination and the confidence to succeed.
Arianna Astuni is the Co-Founder and President of Integrated Educational Services (IES). She graduated from Syracuse University where her field of study included English, Literature, and Writing. Her career as the consummate SAT instructor started after years of in-home tutoring. Her invaluable experience led to the creation of IES, which because of her, is the exemplary leader in SAT preparation. She penned the IES curriculum for SAT Critical Reading and Writing -- a curriculum that has led countless students in reaching their target scores.
Because of her near perfect track record, she remains the most requested tutor in New Jersey. Her clients also include international students from China, Korea, Japan, Spain, and Russia who have sought her expertise from overseas. When asked about her thoughts on the current SAT preparation climate, Arianna provided this:
"IES has been so successful in SAT preparation because we teach a Technique that is unrivaled. After 15 years of teaching SAT, I know that many of my students have benefited from the IES Technique because it is more than just simple strategies: it's an arsenal of knowledge that when applied, safeguards the student from silly mistakes and errors. Many other SAT companies like to focus on 'improving the student's overall critical reading,' which is a noble pursuit -- but it lacks the overall vision that the SAT must be completed under a time constraint. My technique directly addresses that by streamlining what the student needs to know to increase their accuracy, speed, and efficiency."

- Reviewed in the United States on November 4, 2017It really prepared my child well for the SAT test. The advance level part of the title really does mean that it is advanced.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 15, 2017great prep
- Reviewed in the United States on October 29, 2017Updated for the new SAT, there is an optional essay portion. As a parent, I would say that your child should take this essay. It would be a greater benefit for applying for college. If your child is having trouble in writing, this book is perfect. As in the title, its advanced level really help your child be confident and an easy part to do in the test. Having over 500 questions, this would make your child more than ready to take the Essay part.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 22, 2017Although the book is really hard to go through, it really prepared me well for the SAT test. The advance level part of the title really does mean that it is advanced. For example syntax related questions have always been difficult, so this book is really good for advanced sentence placement and deletion questions.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 17, 2017Given how well done their other grammar book was, I was surprised at the low quality of the practice problems in this book. Many of them are far off-base from the way the actual SAT test makers write the questions and, as a result, many of the answer choices will baffle and dismay students, making them think they are doing poorly when, really, it is the book that has committed a faux pas.
I recommend staying away from this book (which could wreck a student's confidence), and go for either:
- Neilson Phu's Advanced SAT Grammar
- Erica Meltzers Ultimate SAT Grammar guide
