About the author

David Salomon is a lifelong photographer, part-time writer, and full-time real estate developer from Dallas, Texas.
David has always loved animals and has a knack for taking pictures. After being struck by "penguin-mania" while visiting Chilean Patagonia, David spent the next two summers sailing the southern oceans to photograph all seventeen penguin species in the wild. He also launched a massive search to personally verify old and new information about these graceful birds. His photos were combined with the most up-to-date research to create Penguin-Pedia, the most comprehensive penguin book available today.
Visit Penguin-Pedia.com and Facebook.com/PenguinPedia for more information!
In 2014 Salomon published Igor Samsonov: Painter and Passionate Visionary, a book which showcases the work of Russian painter Igor Samsonov.
Random House published David's first children's book "Penguins!" on October 10, 2017 as part of their Step into Reading series for children. "Penguins!" follows a penguin couple through their efforts to raise a chick and uses David's original photographs of Chinstrap penguins in the wild. It is a Step 2 Reader, which uses basic vocabulary and short sentences to tell simple stories, intended for children who recognize familiar words and can sound out new words with help.

- Reviewed in the United States on December 18, 2017For the longest time I wasn't sure about penguins. I always felt that they had something to do with the cause of the Falklands War. Boy was I ever mistaken! According to Salomon, penguins are merely majestic creatures attempting to continue age old survival traditions in the harsh landscape of the Antarctic. They have colonies just like the conquistadors of Spanish old. I was not aware they were that politically advanced, how cool?! The krill were a thrill. I can tell Salomon is not lying nor exaggerating as he provides an array of magnificent photographs as primary source evidence. This book is a wonderful weekend read for those looking for something less heavy than Agatha Christie or a John Green novel. Very informative and highly recommended!
- Reviewed in the United States on December 13, 2017I bought Penguins! for my friend's five year old twins. I had read other reviews that mentioned the extremely high quality of the photos. I have to agree--the photography and detail really stand out, and make this one of the highest quality children's books I've bought.
This has quickly become the twins favorite bedtime reading book. The book's story is very engaging and the reading level is perfect for them.

- Reviewed in the United States on December 6, 2017As an uncle with two young nephews, this was the perfect gift. The beautiful pictures tell the story of penguins raising a family. This book is highly educational and entertaining. Normally children’s books tell stories through the use of illustrations, however this book uses vivid pictures that conveys the adventures and rewards of parenthood. I highly recommend this book. My nephews are not satisfied until I read it to them twice in one sitting:)

- Reviewed in the United States on December 23, 2017David Salomon’s Penguins is a unique book.
They say that one picture is worth a thousand words. Salomon’s photos are worth much more than that. The pictures are so vivid that they expose the penguins’ feelings.
I cannot imagine a better first science book than Penguins. It is sure to attract your young readers and lure them to learn more about this very special animal.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 17, 2017"Are penguins fish? No! They are birds!"
My favorite photo in this book shows penguins diving into cold glossy water. This book contains many other great original shots trained on a colony of chinstrap penguins. The images are perfect to pique the interest of young reader and hopefully set them on a lifelong journey of scientific exploration.
