Adam Warren always makes me cry in the best of ways. His characters are so human, so relatable that it always makes me feel like I'm right there with Emp, feeling everything with her. Minus the brutal beat down, of course. Which is good, because I don't have a super suit. And as Ninjette, says-- I WANT THAT POLYAMORY SCENE. The love between the main characters is so real and powerful, I can only hope they get a happy triangle

Wow...this was intense. First off, glad to see the new Empowered volume is out! Second, holy crap was this insane. The entire volume is one big chapter, and the pacing is quick with one awesome fight to the next with only a few moments to relax. Seeing Emp being forced to fight the people she knows and loves, and the people she knows and doesn't love, and the people she doesn't know and is unsure to love, is pretty brutal. The artwork is of course great, though it did make it hard to understand what's going on at times. There were lots of great, shocking, and heartbreaking moments in the story, such as the much deserved beating Major Havoc got. There were also plenty of secrets finally revealed involving Emp's suit and Willy Pete's origins, but I won't spoil them here. And of course Mindf**k's brother is a creepy b@stard whose face remains entirely in shadow for mostly the entire story, with the only times seeing his face were in flashbacks. This was a good read, and I highly recommend this to fans and comic book lovers! I can't wait for the next one!

Where do I even begin with this one? I had average expectations coming from volume 9 and 10 which I liked but didn't really love. But hoo boy, did this volume deliver. Needless to say, the art was superb but it easily surpasses all volumes before it. So many long standing questions were answered. My heart was ripped out of my chest and beaten with a bat full of rusty nails. I almost cried a few times reading this.

I didn't really care for the lovey dovey good vibes of volume 10 as I fell in love with Empowered in volume 4, where she was really put to the test to save the day for the first time. Volume 11 has a similar "trial by fire" that she undergoes on a much more catastrophic and heart wrenching scale. This volume makes volume 9's villain palooza look like a Saturday morning cartoon. There was no filler or specific sequences dedicated to bondage or fanservice, however Emp (and all the other women in the series) still sported their gorgeous figures in action. Is it a spoiler to say people die? This is the volume where crap hits the fan. Emp is pushed to her absolute limit. If you like to watch Emp suffer and struggle through adversity, this volume won't disappoint. This volume is a gut punch from start to finish.

I wait for the next installment of "Empowered" the same way I do for the next volume of my favorite book series. Adam Warren's writing in this series has easily eclipsed most fiction writers in terms on characterization and world building. Volume 11 is only as gut wrenching and impactful because Mr. Warren has seen to it that we FEEL something about each and every single character that appears in its pages. Whether we deeply care for them or hate them with every fiber of our being, there isn't a single wasted space on these pages.

Volume 11 sees Empowered having to deal with the consequences of other peoples sins and failures, but in tragic fashion, she will suffer by proxy. But though she may suffer, she will never quit, even against a threat the likes of which we have never seen until this point in an already villain filled series. We bear witness to the end of a certain characters arc, but our catharsis is bittersweet because while things may be resolved, there is a hefty price to be paid for said resolution.

Empowered remains one of my favorite series, comic or otherwise. The quality of each book only seems to grow, and the wait between volumes becomes more difficult each time. An unquestionable buy.

A villain breaks out of the supposedly escape-proof Glass Break and soon has every cape in town coming after Empowered. It's a good thing Emp always seems to have a trick or two up her sleeve, even if that sleeve is in tatters. I won't spoil the details, but my only complaint is that one long-running plot thread apparently ended with a bit of an anticlimax.

...and better still to see Emp kick her way through a ton of physical and emotional turmoil. Secrets are revealed! Trauma inflicted! Adam Warren once again proves that he's one of the best in the business.

It's been a long strange road from the first volume of EMPOWERED, where a bondage-prone blonde with an alien hypermembrane stumbled onto the pages trussed up and perpetually losing. Since then she's been shat on, beaten up, faced life and death and beyond...but she's grown up to. Emp still takes the licks, but she gets right back up, and nowadays she can hand out the beatings as well as anyone.

The latest episode in the ongoing saga is an almost non-stop exercise in violence, revealing secrets of Emp's past and putting her through some hard choices as she deals with former friends and current foes...and that's before everyone's least favorite fire elemental makes his grim re-appearance. Emp might need some downtime after this one folks...

...and a lot of tender loving care.

Action packed and beautifully illustrated, this volume didn’t give me a second to catch my breath! Only downside is that it ended. Many secrets are revealed into the lore of the Empowered world, must read and re-read...and then re-re-read.

5.0 out of 5 stars Everything you L-Word about Emp (finally)
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on October 21, 2019
After Volume 10's rather fillerish content, I was of two minds about Volume 11. Even with the cliffhanger at the end of the last book, would it turn out to be more of the same? Thankfully, the answer is a resounding NO. After a very brief preamble, this edition dives straight into action, with Emp's newfound confidence and ass-kicking skills being put to the ultimate test. There's almost no let-up in the action, and when there is, it's for some of the most revelatory storytelling the series has ever seen. Seriously, if you've been following the book from the start, you'll be blown away by how many unanswered questions get huge chunks of juicy clue filled in, setting up loads of future storylines.

The art style is, as usual, fantastic. Although I do miss the more simplistic designs sometimes, the artist's life-drawing phase has payed off - everyone looks a lot more on-model, even compared to the last volume (no more Emp And Ninjette sharing the same physique with different bra sizes, and Thugboy still looks imposing without being seemingly 8 feet tall, as he sometimes did previously).

The caveat to this of course, is that Adam Warren is painstakingly drawing and shading all these exquisitely detailed panels, almost entirely in pencil, by himself, which means an incredible lead time on each volume which can now sadly only get longer. As an almost lifelong fan of the artist (discovered Dirty Pair in the 90s), I'm loath to suggest this, but with his increasing complaints about strain on the ol' drawing hand, and his somewhat advancing age, it might be time to think about bringing onboard an assistant for shading etc. or even (deep breath) considering a replacement artist for the series. Warren has always been a great artist, but it's the writing in his books, particularly Empowered, that have kept fans with the series for this long. I'd rather have 20 or 30 more well-written and punchy Empowered volumes with a suspiciously-similar-art-style than maybe only 8 or 10 more that take longer and longer to come out each time. that's just blue-skying though. the book is an absolute winner - I tore through it in one sitting and will be returning for a follow up read in the next couple of days.
