"There is something about this particular book of the Cedar Bay Cozy Mystery series - of the four books I've read so far - that stands out to me. Is it because I also liked the beloved Buddhist Zen Master and wanted to know who was responsible for his murder? Is it because of the way the author handled the subject of Buddhism without preaching to her readers? Is it because the characters seemed to have been developed even more than in the initial books of the series? I'm not exactly sure what it is about this book that stands out to me but, in its entirety, I would have to classify this book as being one of the best I've read."

    How much you enjoy this book probably depends upon just how many of the current crop of "cozy" books you have read recently. There is nothing wrong with it, the heroine and her husband-to-be are pleasant characters, the dogs are nearly human, the heroine far overshadows her police chief love of her life in ability to solve crimes, there are the usual assortment of good and unlikable townspeople, the heroine runs a local eatery with skill and understanding, and there are several viable possibilities for the evil-doer. The problem is that there is nothing about the characters, the situations or the undoubted competency of the author to raise this book into a distinctive entity, to make it stand out from the others.
    It is a pleasant, light read, relatively brief, but will be no more (nor less) engrossing for the average cozy reader than any of a hundred other such books you might choose from the Amazon list.

    Dianne Harman pulled out all the stops when writing this book, a little different in form than her previous books these changes added to the mystery, intrigue and draw of this little gem. Right from the get go you read the inner thoughts of some of the suspects, but you don't know who they are till Dianne artfully reveals little pieces of the puzzle in such a tantalizing way you are completely hooked! Much to my chagrin I found myself wide awake reading till the middle of the night, forcing myself to put the book down so I could get some sleep before my next day began. I loved the little differences that made Book number 3 in this fantastic Cozy Mystery Series one of my all time favorites!
    I love that you get so engrossed in the characters you find yourself walking through your day saying, he reminds me of Doc, or she is just like Roxie. My greatest fear is that Dianne may decide to retire from writing some day...then what?
