The perfect life becomes the perfect nightmare in a twisting novel of psychological suspense from #1 USA Today bestselling author Jennifer Jaynes…
Dr. Daniel Winters is living a fairy-tale life. He has a beachfront home in Malibu, a career as a respected pediatrician at a thriving Los Angeles practice, and a gorgeous new wife, Mia. For a man whose past was rife with mental illness, addiction, and thoughts of suicide, it seems too good to be true.
Then Daniel learns that a fellow pediatrician and his family were found slaughtered in their home. It’s just the first chip in the facade of Daniel’s perfect life. Little by little, everything starts to fall away. At work, his career becomes at risk when he’s asked to remain silent about a dangerous new drug. At home, Mia has gone from an affectionate newlywed to a mysterious woman carefully hiding secrets―and possibly a lover.
Then, another doctor is found dead, and as Mia’s behavior becomes increasingly suspicious, Daniel begins to wonder: Is paranoia getting the best of him…or has his fairy-tale life become a nightmare worse than he could have ever imagined?

- Reviewed in the United States on February 18, 2025Even though the subject matter is heartbreaking (especially for a parent), it was written very well. Not just the plot, but also how the characters were described and their thoughts expressed. The story also speaks to greed within the pharmaceutical companies and the lengths they will go through to make sure their drug is put on the market. It also makes the reader reflect on the motives of the healthcare professionals and makes you wonder, just how seriously do they take their oath of "do no harm." I had a hard time putting the book down, as I wanted to see what was going to happen to the characters.
Overall, a very good read! Highly recommend.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 3, 2023Dr Daniel Winters is a successful pediatrician & confirmed bachelor then he meets beautiful Mia. After a whirlwind courtship & marriage they're looking forward to their "happily ever after." Does he really know his mysterious bride? The pediatric practice is heavily involved with a new vaccine which promises to protect children from the common cold as well as other more serious childhood diseases. Dr. Winters begins to question its safety much to the displeasure of his boss. He's determined to find the truth at all costs. This was an entertaining book which I read in a day. (Glad I'm retired!)
- Reviewed in the United States on February 15, 2024Wow, this book was fantastic. It’s a smooth, easy read It was very relatable to this Covid era and then towards the end the last maybe five chapters were heart pounding oh my God moments and there is one little moment towards the end, which is jaw-dropping and sad didn’t see that coming at all.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 3, 2024I was glued to this book, it had great potential... Only to have a disappointing and unsatisfying ending. That's really all I can say without giving anything away. Let's just say there was no happiness, bad guys got away with bad things, no justice for any of the good guys. Just... disappointing. I know there's not always a happy ending, but there could have been at least a happy ending for ONE of the main characters.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 19, 2020I love vaccines expect the flu vaccine. Every time I have that it messes me up. This is make believe though and crazier stuff has happened in real life. Anyone remember the first vaccine for Polio? That killed a lot of kids because they didn’t take the time to test it and get it right the first time. I understand they wanted a vaccine immediately but a good vaccine takes time. Everyone also has a different reaction and not everyone can have them which is why anyone who can have them should to keep those who can’t safer. I have this 4 stars because the writing was pretty darn good and I didn’t see the twist coming. Now do I think doctors get killed by big pharma for asking questions? Anything is possible but that is not likely at all. And the media would be all over these doctors for kids getting killed. Good writing though she has talent. But I hope she tries to vaccinate her kids.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 27, 2018I have been a fan of Jennifer Jaynes since I accidentally discovered her very first book soon after it was published. I have pre-ordered all of her subsequent books so I could have them immediately available to read after publication.
Sometimes, I will wait a few weeks to read them just so I can anticipate the pleasure for a little while.
I will not go into a synopsis of what Malice is about, because I've read over many of the reviews and the book has already been summarized quite well by others. Instead, I will tell you why I loved the book.
Ms. Jaynes develops her characters in such a refreshing fashion! They are real people with real flaws, some likable and some not so much. There are no perfect heroes and no imperfect villains - they are all foible human beings.
While there is any number of suspense and intrigue back-stories going on with the main three characters in this book, which will draw you completely in, keep you guessing and on the edge of your seat, the main theme throughout the book is a drug, approved by the FDA, and pushed by the drug companies and many doctors (who are paid bonus's by the drug companies).
This is not surprising to me and shouldn't be surprising to anyone else. What is shocking, is that this new wonder drug is dreadfully harming the ones it's supposed to protect - children! And some nefarious players are going to great lengths to keep the problems covered up. It's not only scary - it's also heartbreaking.
From my own personal experience, the FDA is sometimes a little quick to approve new drugs. Three times in my life over the years, I have had severe side effects caused by drugs prescribed for me by my doctor. Two of those drugs were subsequently removed by the FDA because a large number of deaths were attributed to them and the third drug now has "Severe Warnings in a Black Box". My doctor denied that the third drug could cause the symptoms I described, so it was a bit ironic that the same symptoms I described are now listed as a Black Box Warning. Took me several years and a huge amount of self-help research to get over that drug.
Personal stories aside, Malice was a well crafted read and I can't wait for Jennifer Jaynes' next book!
- Reviewed in the United States on May 15, 2019This novel was captivating. It was so good that I couldn’t put it down. I loved the unexpected plot twist. This novel puts a great deal of important information into the hands of it’s readers. Wrapped up in the thrilling story is a glimpse of how things really work in this world. The author really did her research and the most thrilling and terrifying thing about this whole story is that this same type of story is happening in our country. Most just can’t see the truth for what it is. As the author communicates in the book - it’s nearly impossible to convince someone of a lie when their very existence and livelihood is dependent upon them believing that lie. I definitely recommend this book!
- Reviewed in the United States on November 10, 2022This was a really interesting suspense novel. It has some very unexpected twists. I was very surprised by the ending. It is kind of a medical thriller. Daniel had his own trouble with his alcohol addiction. Mia was full of secrets and it took awhile for her husband to catch on. The book was very entertaining and informative.

5.0 out of 5 stars Malice - so near to the truth it's scary
This was an excellent read. The author captured the tension and suspension just right. Keeping the reader wondering about Mia was well-paced and revealed at the right point in the book. The voice in Daniel's head was very realistic for an alcoholic and his resetting of goalposts realistic. What was most intriguing was the research and arguments against pharma and vaxxines. She did her research well on the battles the hundreds of thousands of parents having to fight against pharma and society on this very controversial issue. She hit the nail on the head when it came to the medical profession's attitude and society's reaction. It is sad we will never see a sequel because this lovely author was found dead - rumoured to be suicide with 2 shots to the head - ironically (spoiler alert) just like in the book - how can you commit suicide with 2 shots to the (chest in the book) head? It's all gone very quiet from everyone on that front but makes you very suspicious...RIP Jennifer Jayne - may the truth of your death be revealed one day, and the truth about big pharma too...

5.0 out of 5 stars The truth written in fiction
This is the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth. What a brave lady. But was it worth it. Not only has she told the truth about the use of neurotoxins as adjuvants in va$$ines, she has accurately portrayed the corruption between the CDC, pharma, and doctors in the USA.....for what it's worth, you got it spot on Jennifer. I only hope your family take small comfort from this....RIP. Murdered for telling the truth.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing read
I couldn't put the book down. I have always had strong feelings about medical malpractice, but the corruption and heartache Jennifer writes about kept me enraptured.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good book overall with plot twist
I read this book after hearing that Jennifer Jaynes had passed away and wanted to know if there was anything in the book that would have led people to want to come after her (ie. exposing the pharmaceutical industry in any way). Since I am pretty familiar with anti vaccine arguments I didn’t find anything in here particularly damning. But to people who haven’t ever been exposed to that, it may have been eye opening to them.
I found the book to be suspenseful - definitely a page turner! However it got kind of tiring towards the final third of the way into the book. Amazing plot twist at the end! I would recommend it to those who have never heard of the connection between big pharma, profits, vaccine injury etc. Could’ve been better written imo but so sad this will be the last book by Jaynes.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Book
This is the first Jennifer Jaynes book I've read and thoroughly enjoyed it, liking her style and her development of the characters. I would have given it five points except that fairly early in the book she mentions what is going to happen to the main characters, which means you're waiting for it to happen and the story left some loose ends. Hopefully there will be a sequel.
