This book is excellent. I took my CPHQ exam today and felt it prepared me well for the concepts asked, was current, and well-organized. It was key to have industry experience too, but am SOO grateful I had this tool. Prior to purchasing this resource I had started with the Mometrix CPHQ prep book which was disorganized, inaccurate, and pointed me in the wrong direction. I have teammates taking this exam next and I will recommend this NAHQ book to all!!

Very informative and easy to read with many colored tables and graphs. For the CPHQ exam, I’d advice also getting the Quality Toolbox book by Nancy Tague for better explanations and examples of the quality and process improvement tools (I also got the Janet brown quality handbook, but it’s text heavy and not that easy to read, i’d wouldn’t advice purchasing it).
Tip: don’t take the free online practice exams, they are full of mistakes.

The study guide was comprehensive and this is the one I would recommend as it’s published by the organization that writes the exam questions but I would also recommend answering practice questions to prepare for the test. I passed my exam.

I have a background in healthcare and have been in quality for about 4 years. I wanted to take my CPHQ exam, so I basically studied this book for about 4 months. Then I purchased, the NAHQ's practice tests and studied those. I have to say that the practice tests are excellent because you really have an opportunity to test your knowledge and the tests include rationales for all answers (correct and incorrect). These tools, the book and tests, helped me to successfully pass the examination.

I am in the process of studying for the CPHQ exam. I love the kindle version of this book because even if I don’t have my ipad with me I can always read it on my phone. I love the features of highlighting, creating flash cards, notes, etc.
The book follows the outline of the test which is great. Whenever I find a concept that I need more information on, I look it up online and enter a note. Having all my notes, bookmarks, and highlighted phrases together in one place makes studying much easier than hauling around a book!

Very good read.

There are many aspects of this book that I really liked, particular, the coverage of health care quality body of knowledge in general. In a few areas, the presentation of information was brilliant, as an example, the summarization quality management tools (including concise and brilliantly presented summary of control charts). I wanted to give the book 3.5 starts and had to settle with 3 or 4 and after some deliberation, I gave it 3. The reason is the poor presentation of the information in general and especially in patient safety section. I personally bought the book specifically to educate myself on patient safety and prep for the Certified Professional in Healthcare Quality (CPHQ) exam, which I passed. I found reading and comprehending the text in many areas and again, particularly in the patient safety section to be a difficult job. The information is presented in a very monotone fashion and as if you are reading a collection of training materials which are merged together without making sure the text is cohesive. Terms and organizations were not logically introduced and events are not chronically narrated. As a result, I had to frequently go back few pages or chapters back and re-read part of the text to make sense of a concept. In general, this book is a better reference than a study and training material, and perhaps, this has always been the intention of the authors.
