"The book is a great resource in a concise package. I found the programminglanguages section especially helpful in keeping up to date with modernweb technologies. If you work with technical people, get this book!Forever is gone to using the terms, rubies on rails, the coffeelanguage, or c-pound."

- Reviewed in the United States on September 10, 2019I am a recruiter and have many years of experience, but all in non-tech. I just moved into a technical recruiter role and have been feeling like a deer in headlights. I bought this book and three others to try and help get me up to speed on understanding this new world. This book is AMAZING. It is small but it's mighty! I love how the author gives analogies that you can relate to when explaining intimidating tech terms. I am not an avid reader and I learn visually/hands-on so I had very low expectations as to how much this would help me. It truly feels like someone is white boarding all of this out for you as you read through the book. I would 100% recommend this to someone who is new to tech recruiting, especially searching for developers and engineers. You will at least be able to understand how their skills and experience fit together etc after reading this book. Highly recommend!
- Reviewed in the United States on April 19, 2013I am a Software Engineer at a start-up in the Bay Area. I purchased this book for the recruiter at my company in hopes of having her better understand engineering candidates.
I did a quick reading of the book to make sure that it would be easy to understand and comprehend for a non-technical person. To my surprise, the book is able to explain complex ideas (e.g., concurrency, interpreted vs compiled,etc...) in a very simple and easy to understand manner. I would highly recommend this book for those who want to better understand the current landscape of web technologies, or for the recruiters out there that don't want to come off as being completely oblivious when communicating with engineering candidates (this is a huge turn-off for engineers in my opinion).
- Reviewed in the United States on September 16, 2013Easy read. Takes a little over an hour. Great reference book with diagrams to help, and real companies highlighted (to give you an idea of the tech they use). Would be great if Tommy built a table showing windows vs Linux/UNIX technologies (i.e .NET platform people tend to use C#) and defined a few words and acronyms he uses in here (like stack, BSD). Overall, really great value for $5 and the 70 minutes to read it.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 25, 2014This book did give some insights on web technologies and infrastructures. Without the coding information that would confuse some readers that are not that into programming, but good to brush up on information.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 23, 2020I struggle with reading because my mind wanders a lot. I didn’t have that too often with this book. Had a lot of good information in it overall and made things easy to understand.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 19, 2019For the price, this book is a bargain and the first book every new IT Recruiter should read. Worth the money.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 26, 2016I thought from the high reviews, that the book would be more relevant and detailed. I wouldn't purchase it again.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 3, 2021It provides me with an understanding on how to map out various technologies that I can apply to my Organization.

5.0 out of 5 stars A must read for those who need an overview of Web Technologies
A great little book.
Very informative for a non programmer.
It's not be bound that well, and the paper is cheap. But, this is not a mass market book, so I understand costs have to be kept down.

5.0 out of 5 stars Must read book for non-technical people
The book gives a very good overview about web-technologies. It is easy to understand and short. I recommend it for co-workers of technology companies without technical background.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not enough information for the price
There is very little information for the price paid. Even the information learned from a non-IT perspective will have to be elaborated through further reading for this is really not enough for say, an IT recruiter, to work with. For that, I give it two stars.
