Editorial Reviews
Review
"Just as I Never Promised You a Rose Garden and Dibs in Search of Self were required reading a few decades ago, Call Me Tuesday should be required reading for all psychology students today." - Jayne L. Williams MS LPC, Mental Health Therapist & former Assistant Professor, Saint-Mary-of-the Woods College
"A compelling portrayal of grief gone horribly wrong." - Alexandra Levit, a former nationally syndicated columnist for the Wall Street Journal, current writer for the New York Times, and bestselling author
"This story was like a blueprint and a guidance for all children who have suffered from their loved ones." - Bas Van Hout, Dutch Crime Reporter and child abuse survivor
"We are carried along, not able to put the book down -not wanting to hear more at times for it becomes almost too difficult to hear -but having to see it through, for we have come too close to Tuesday's inner turmoil than to desert her now." - David Lloyd, The Virtual Muser eBook Review
"Despite the disturbing subject matter, the writing is well-crafted but never emotionally manipulative or maudlin, which made this a surprisingly enjoyable read." - Online Book Club
"If you are an aficionado of child abuse stories, this is a good one. If you're new to the genre, this is a good starter book since it is so well-written." - Java Davis, Kindle Book Review
"...the prose is clean and flows well and the voice is tragically honest without being melodramatic." - Mayra Calvani, award winning author
From the Author
This, and all the abuse described in Call Me Tuesday is 100% true, and I, the author, am the one who endured it. Other parts of the book, like the names and locations, were fictionalized. I decided to do this out of respect for the people involved, but also, on a more personal level, I found it easier to write about the horrific and humiliating things that happened to a fictitious child named Tuesday than to write about the horrific and humiliating things that, in reality, happened to the little girl I used to be.
I'm adding this note because I feel it's important to make it clear that the abuse part of the book is true, so while reading the story you can keep it in the back of your mind that the kind of extreme maltreatment of a child at the hands of a parent, as detailed in Call Me Tuesday, does actually happen--something I believe everyone needs to know.

About the author
LEIGH BYRNE is the author of “Call Me Tuesday” and “Call Me Cockroach”, two heart-stirring memoirs that recount with raw emotion how she survived and ultimately overcame her mentally unstable mother's brutal abuse. After the publication of her books, the opening of old wounds caused Leigh to slip into depression for years before she finally found the courage to write again. Her debut novel, “There's Been An Accident”, a romantic-suspense mystery, was a refreshing diversion from writing about her abusive childhood, but at times, while penning the novel, she found herself drawing from her own experience of “losing" her parents at a young age to convey the protagonist's inner turmoil. While Leigh admits that she’s not fully healed from her traumatic past, she has learned to accept it as part of her journey and to embrace the resiliency adversity has afforded her.

- Reviewed in the United States on January 5, 2021It took me a couple months to read this book because I was busy with work and school. I was finally able to finish it. I had so many mix emotions about this book. I was shocked by how her mother tormented , abused and humiliated her daughter . She damn near almost killed her daughter numerous times by starving her to death, withholding water from her which mad her pass out and made her body go into shock. She was also beaten and forced to hold her urine which caused her kidney infections. Her mother didnt allow her to bathe and had her wear ridiculous clothing to school. I already could imagine the nightmare she faced in school. I'm surprised she didnt commit suicide with all the crap her mother put her through. I was angry with everyone in her family. Her father was useless and did nothing to protect his daughter yet he was viewed as "father of the year" to his neighbor's and colleagues. He was weak and in my eyes wasnt a FATHER or a MAN! He made every excuse in the book saying his wife was sick from her head injury. No she knew exactly what she was doing! She knows right from wrong! Her disabled daughter died and she wanted to blame someone so she took it out on her 8 year old daughter. I'm disgusted with the whole family the father, her brothers, her aunt and grandma. Her Aunt and Grandma had a feeling something wasn't right but didnt step in to help. The Brother's witness what was happening to their sister and did nothing. Finally when I think she's going to get help from CPS they dont do a thorough investigation. This went on for years until she finally snapped on her mother. What upset me is she had to let go of the past with her mother in order to have a relationship with her again. I wanted answers why did she do this to her daughter?? They never sat down and spoke about the past. Her father felt bad in the end and I guess the guilt ate at him but that still doesnt give him the right to make excuses for his wife's actions. I wanted some type of closure or explanation. How will Tuesday move on with her life as an adult when she had such a traumatic childhood . I really enjoyed this book even though there were some disturbing parts. I'm happy this book was written because this type of stuff does happen and its REAL. All mothers arent nurturing some are just pure EVIL. I hope this book is an eye opener. Millions of children are going through this even today and they need help . They need to be heard and social services and police officers need to believe these stories even if these stories seem a little insane. This does happen. This was a fantastic read. I would like to thank the Author for sharing her story with us. Leigh is very strong woman for having went through pure HELL.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 2, 2014This book was incredibly sad and made me feel hopeless for humanity. I wanted the protagonist to overcome soooo many obstacles in her life. It was a story I couldn't bear but also I could not put it down. Page after page I wanted to know what was going to happen, how would this end?! Tuesday was a character I got very attached to in the pages of this book. If you read "A Child Called It" and this type of story intrigues you, this is going to be a good read. I really enjoyed and kept rooting for Tuesday to turn it around for herself.
I would definitely recommend this book for anyone around 8th grade and up, it's an easy read but it does have some graphic scenes that can be hard to explain to a younger child (unless the child is mature of course). I also believe that adults should read this book. It's important, especially if you have children in school currently, to be aware of what other kids go through. The book was an excellent read, well written and very melancholy. For a kindle price of a few dollars, this was an awesome deal.
- Reviewed in the United States on June 27, 2012So rarely does a book come a long that continues to stay with you hours, even days after you've read the last page. Call Me Tuesday is a tale of abuse and heartache, and fills the reader with so many emotions at once; anger, rage, resentment, hate, fear, hope, love and triumph of the human spirit to endure. It is, if nothing else, cathartic. The book draws the reader in and flows effortlessly as the author shares the tale of this angel called, Tuesday. It will make you cry, so grab yourself a box of tissue and then go hug your child. I cried for most of the book. Sometimes, after all the fluffy lovey, dovey, happy endings we read, we need a book that jolts us back into reality and reaches us on a deeper level. THIS IS THAT BOOK!
Spoilers:
During the book, I kept praying "Lord, save this poor baby, I don't know how much more I can take!" I exhaled every time Tuesday got to go to her Grandmothers without realizing I'd been holding my breath! Furthermore, my heart clenched each time she had a medical problem that went unattended, every time she missed a meal, and every time her mother's hatred and her father's disregard for her flared, which was all the time.
I felt hatred toward her mother, hatred, accident or not. But, even more so, I had rage toward her father for not protecting her from her mother in an effort to 'not cause a rift in the family.' Parents are supposed to protect and nurture their children, not harm them and want them to suffer. Throughout I kept wondering if her mother was trying to kill her instead of just trying to hurt her. Even if her mother had a mental issue because of her accident, shouldn't she know that she's hurting one child and not the others? Wouldn't you want to get help? That mother's love HAD to be in there somewhere, right? The father failed his family in a big way in this story, which I have been told was very typical for the time: the breadwinner doesn't have to deal with the hard stuff because they have to deal with work. Why would he not try to get her help?!?!
Hopefully we have progressed so much as a a society, compared to a few decades ago, that this type of behavior would be more readily recognized, diagnosed, and helped today in comparison to yesteryear. I admit, I wanted to push them both down the stairs for the monsters they had become to this child. The relief I felt when Tuesday got to live with her Aunt was so emotional and overwhelming my tears flowed more, but for a different reason. This was elation and relief, but still sadness for what she'd been through. I don't want to think that children go through this, even today, but I know they do. We as parents, as a community, and as a society need to recognize the signs and protect our future generations. Thank you, Leigh Byrne, for sharing this tale. Tough topics need to be brought out in the light so the signs are recognizable and cycles can be stopped. Bravo for a book well done!

Would def recommend .. very sad at times but had to carry on reading this . Read in half a day

5.0 out of 5 stars A must-read
I find it unbelievable that the child abuse was caused by Tuesday's mother's brain injury. I feel it's because her mother lashed out at Tuesday because of her Mum having no control over her own life. The abuse is unforgiveable and brain injury doesn't excuse it. The father was disgusting for allowing it to continue too. I can forgive stress and bad moods, I just can't forgive abuse and the list of excuses to deny it or keep getting away with it. I read this book in one sitting and I intend to read the next book. I hope Tuesday is living a peaceful life and doing better.

4.0 out of 5 stars Call me tuesday
Very sad book but if true I find it difficult to believe that nothing was done. The mother should have been taken to court
