- Reviewed in the United States on January 24, 2016This was the first book I had read by the author. It is a gut-wrenching depiction of post-natal depression, told from the mother's point of view. How one person's life can change overnight and the effect that has on her family and friends. So sad in parts, but it does have happy parts as well. Well worth a read.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 7, 2017Very powerful story so beautifully written. Hard to put down. Very emotional and easily felt in the heart. A wonderful story!

Got a lot better the second part of the book.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 9, 2016This book was awesome! How lucky was I to have spotted it in my local library! I only recognised Natasha Lester's name because of her well known book A Kiss from Mr Fitzgerald which I thought was her first novel. So, of course, I had to check out her website (thankful that she has one) and have discovered a second book titled 'If I Should Lose You,' which I can't wait to read.
What is Left Over, After by Natasha Lester is extremely well written.
Gaelle, the main character might be unlikeable at the beginning of this story but it's not too hard to understand when someone is grieving to act out the way Gaelle did and as the story of her life unfolds the reader will understand her fears and behaviour.
A beautiful, intriguing, thought-provoking, sad and complex story but one that is worthwhile reading.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 27, 2011Wonderful written book about motherhood and grief. Are you a mother even that you dont have a child? I was captured from the first page and could not put the book down before I had finished the last page.
When Gail looses her newborn child she is grieving, but she find it very difficult to share her grief with anybody, her behaviour is a mirror from her own experience as a child and her relation to her own mother. Gail escape in her own world to live through her grief. Help comes from an unexpected source as a young girl and her uncomplicated behaviour towards Gail.
I can't wait to Natashia Lesters next book to be released.
Warmly recommended.

4.0 out of 5 stars A moving, imaginative, poignant novel
Lester adroitly tackles the subject of newborn loss set against a deeply dysfunctional mother daughter relationship with the use of stories. The stories we tell ourselves when reality is just too much, the legacy for a young woman who has no model of functional mothering to call on. I loved the connection between Gaelle and her teenage confidant and ultimately saviour.
A great read; sensitive and imaginative.

2.0 out of 5 stars Well written but my least favourite book from Natasha Lester
The book is well written but I did not enjoy it as much as the author’s other three books. It was not a page turner and I found it slow and repetitive at times.
