A child's active imagination can get the better of him or her at bedtime. Noises in the hallway, shadows cast by clothes hanging on closet doors and other typical sights and sounds around the house sometimes make it difficult for little ones to fall asleep (and stay asleep).  I Can Sleep Alone is an imaginative book designed to help children see and hear beyond the darkness of their rooms and the sights and sounds that keep them up at night. The book's objective is to help them sleep alone in their own beds and feel great about doing it.

Editorial Reviews

About the Author

Frank Mahr is a husband and the father of two wonderful kids. I Can Sleep Alone is his first published work, the idea for which came following many sleepless nights with his son who was afraid to go to bed by himself. The author hopes that I Can Sleep Alone can be used as a tool by other parents and caregivers to show their children that going to sleep alone does not have to be a stressful or scary experience.

This is the best "sleep alone" book I've been able to find (we're tried several). Other books use rewards that are unrealistic (I can't buy my kid a present every time she sleeps in her bed) or give kids crazy ideas (one books's main character only sleeps in her bed after her parents let her paint her bed herself! Sorry, I don't want my child to paint her bed). This book does a great job illustrating that the spooky things kids think are scary in the dark are just normal things that are not scary when you look at them in the light. Recommended!

Read before you read to your kids. I read this to my son and it gave him more things to be scared of! The book goes through things kids think are scary and then gives logical reasons (like the scary noises are just mom and dad cleaning up). However! My son was not scared of “ghosts” or “monsters under the bed” until I read him the book. And even though there were good reasons given for these things, he now won’t sleep bc he’s scared of the monsters.

I’ve read the reviews after I purchased the book (thank God), because the reviews would’ve probably deterred me from buying it. I respect what other people are saying because I also was thinking, “hmm, a ghost?” But the book talks about how what children perceive as spooky are actually common things & there’s nothing to be afraid of. My 3.5 year old actually surprised me by telling me afterward there’s nothing to be afraid of & he can sleep alone. Overall it’s a cute book, but then again I’m not a parent that shields my children from every single thing, so I wasn’t offended by the use of monsters, ghosts, or robots. However, each parent is entitled as to what they deem appropriate.

Excellent kids book and a special help for parents that are struggling with this issue. Frank Mahr writes beautifully and I am looking forward to his next book.

I have a 2 year-old and I feel this book is geared towards children that are a bit older. Talks about how things at night are not actually scary like they seem. Decent book but not really what I was looking for.

Flimsy cheap feel and quite scary pictures about ghosts and monsters. For a book seeming to try and relieve concerns about sleeping alone this seemed to achieve the opposite
