Cases and Materials on Employment Discrimination (Aspen Casebook) 9th Edition
Purchase options and add-ons
The ninth edition of the best-selling Cases and Materials on Employment Discrimination blends cases, notes, and problems into an integrated pedagogy that balances scholarly and practice perspectives. The authors build a conceptual framework for understanding how discrimination is defined and proven in litigation. The text allows professors to explore particular interests more deeply and permits them to take not only a litigation approach but also explore the compliance, investigation, and counseling perspectives that are characteristic of modern practice. The broad coverage integrates scholarship with legal doctrine drawn from statutes and judicial decisions. The useful Statutory Supplement is available for separate purchase.
Key Benefits:
- Young v. UPS (reconceptualizing pregnancy discrimination).
- Nassar v. Uni. of Texas Sw. Med. Ctr. (requiring but-for causation for Title VII retaliation claims)
- Vance v. Ball State Univ. (narrowing the definition of supervisor for purposes of employer liability for sexual harassment)
- EEOC v. Abercrombie & Fitch (reconceptualizing claims of religious discrimination).
- New circuit court decisions on sexual orientation discrimination under Title VII.
- Streamlined coverage. Materials have been reworked, thus reducing page count by 100 pages.

- Reviewed in the United States on February 13, 2019Its exactly what I expected. No complaints
- Reviewed in the United States on January 27, 2020I’m just writing this review so that when I return the book, I don’t get charged for it being in bad condition. I received this book with the binding completely ruined. The entire book is unattached from the cover at this point. It works okay so I’m using it.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 8, 2019Looking back I don’t see anything in my order suggesting this book was described as used/poor condition, and I was shocked when I opened it because I never buy textbooks unless they’re at least like new and this is truly awful. This book is barely usable, pretty much every line is underlined already in thick black ink which makes it difficult to read and impossible to underline anything myself. Nearly every other word is sloppily circled in the same thick ink, blocking out the words around it. I paid $120 for this, and without a description suggesting otherwise I expect that to mean some highlighting or normal signs of regular use. This is illegible.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 29, 2017I paid full price for this book and it came bound upside down and backwards. So when I open the front cover I see the last page of the book upside down.
