From the Back Cover
"In" Hormone Deception," Lindsey Berkson makes a compelling case for another reason to avoid a diet rich in animal fats, as these are most likely to contain hormone disruptors. Highly recommended."
--Dean Ornish, M.D., author of "Dr. Dean Ornish's Program for Reversing Heart Disease" and "Love and Survival"
"A wake-up call for the twenty-first century similar to Rachel Carson's "Silent Spring"! This book is absolutely essential reading for everyone who wants to reduce their exposure to the unsuspected new breed of toxins in everyday life--hormone disruptors."
--Ann Louise Gittleman, N.D., C.N.S., author of "Eat Fat, Lose Weight" and "The Fat-Flush Diet"
Undetected intruders are lurking in our homes and affecting our health, intelligence, fertility, and even behavior. These "intruders" are hormone disruptors--substances from everyday foods and products that masquerade as hormones and deceive our bodies' delicate hormonal signaling systems.
In "Hormone Deception," Lindsey Berkson reveals where hormone disruptors come from and how they affect adults, kids, and unborn children. And she provides hope for better health with easy, practical ways to minimize your family's exposure to these dangerous substances.
In "Hormone Deception," you will learn: How hormonal messages from outside our bodies may be playing a vital role in our children's behavior, our fertility, and our overall health The danger areas of a typical home and how to reduce the presence of hormone disruptors in those areas Common foods and household products that have the highest and lowest amounts of hormone disruptors Why scientists do not microwavefood in plastic containers or with plastic cling wrap

About the author

Berkson is a thought leader in functional medicine, with an emphasis on hormones, nutrition, digestion, and intimacy and a doc who walks her talk. For years she was ill with cancers and serious health issues. While writing one of the first breakthrough books on endocrine disruption (Hormone Deception, McGraw-Hill) she discovered she was a victim of the very phenomena she was explaining to the public. Once she knew why and what was wrong she could then formulate her own medication to successfully stop the tumor madness. Thus, Berkson not only connects-the-dots of science but offers "hope." Once you find the root cause of the illness, an informed practitioner can usually create natural effective answers. Berkson was a hormone scholar at a world-renowned estrogen think tank at Tulane University (The Center for Bioenvironmental Research).
She has taught re-licensing seminars to professionals (MDs, pharmacists, chiropractors, NDs, acupuncturists, nutritionists) and formulated the first female nutraceutical line for physicians in the U.S. (Metagenics FEM LINE). She and Dr. J.V. Wright hold a patent on bioidentical hormones and she holds another collaborative patent on a drug for dialysis and diabetic patients.
Berkson hosts the Dr. Berkson’s Best Health Radio Show. She has collaborated and published research on dialysis and nutrition with The University of Texas Medical School at Houston. She is a fellow of the prestigious research institute, the Health Science Collegium. Berkson consults with people and physicians internationally and specializes in complex cases. She pioneered the concept of green pregnancies and the unappreciated role of hormones and the gut.
