- Reviewed in the United States on February 6, 2016This is a great review book to use during the clinical year of PA school. I'm currently about halfway through my clinical rotations (... whoa, it just hit me that I'm almost a PA!) and have been using this book for my last two rotations. It has been very helpful for these rotations (surgery, psychiatry) and am looking forward to using it for my internal medicine rotation next. The book is based off the AAPA blueprint so it has just about everything you need to know. It's all condensed so a lot of "fluff" information that won't help you for an exam isn't included and you can focus on learning what you need to. The layout is an outline/bullet point style so it's easy to separate everything into little chunks of information in your mind. The question bank is very helpful and give you an idea of what kind of questions you may be asked. The best part, however, is the explanations of the questions. It gives you an insight into how to think about test questions (and, to some extent, how to think about things clinically). I definitely recommend this as an adjunct to your other materials for your clinical year!
- Reviewed in the United States on January 8, 2016Fantastic book, thorough outline style review focusing on PANCE relevant material. I felt that this book gave me a great foundation to build upon for the test for each subject, and I was able to depend on the reliability of facts provided by this book, while other study material I used often had incorrect info. The practice test in this book (labeled as a pre-test but I waited to take it after reviewing almost all the topics) was very helpful and pretty accurate scoring compared to my real results. Also the online resources with the code you receive in the book provides a ton of tests (I only had time to use a few) but they were great. I didn't get through all the topics within this book and still passed (coming from someone who always needed to study in PA school, with a "just passing" PACKRAT score).
That being said, I do think it helps to have another source to study from for more "buzz words" and key facts/phrases, which I found by using the HELP PANCE site, despite their occasional inaccuracies. I also used some flash cards from a Lange book and any practice tests I could find online.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 24, 2017I just used this to take the PANRE for the second time. I did not use much else this time around, and focused mainly on cardio and pulmonology and then a few other more heavily weighted topics. I did pay attention to the blueprint to see what was weighted the most. I passed. It was a harder test for me this go around. I don't know if it was because I did not prepare as much as the previous time or if 13 years out of school is having an impact. I should have (and will next time if the test remains in existence in 10 years) used the Emory University CME Review course as well. I think the two would be enough to get anyone through the PANRE.
This resource gave good explanations, but the chapters were pretty long for a review. I love that it is small and portable and I was able to use it almost anywhere in the few days leading up to my test. I lost my password to the on-line question bank so I just used the book.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 6, 2016A Comprehensive Review was a great resource in preparing for my boards (PANRE). The chapters are broken down into easily digestible sections and hit the high points. No extra fluff or extraneous info. Included in this book is a code to use online where you can take the practice quizzes online. These were extremely helpful, as they provided instant feedback and explanation of incorrect answers. Nice. I was ready for the board exam - scored high and was very pleased with my results.
The best perk of this book is you can use the cost of it towards your certification requirements. Just follow the directions they give you in order to claim Self-Assessment credit for your NCCPA certification from AAPA. The whole activity will take about 2-3 days doing about 4-5 hours/day – it is time-intensive. But you’ll get ALL your 20 hours needed for the SA credit for 2 years! Worth it!

5.0 out of 5 stars So it gave me peace of mind and the level of detail is quite perfect. Furthermore
I studied a lot for the PANCE and did well. I would not say this book was the reason for my success, you just have to STUDY, but I would say that I was studying outside of what I needed to focus on and this book really helped me trim down and hone what is really important. So it gave me peace of mind and the level of detail is quite perfect. Furthermore, this book is worth a lot of CMEs, ongoing education, after you graduate and become a PA. I will rely on this book for future recerts because I wont have 40 hours a week to study like I did for the Pance while I was in school.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 11, 2018This is the ultimate PANRE prep book, I have used this book for every PANRE and have never had any trouble. I have taken 3 PANRE’s so far, most recently April 2018, and have never had a problem. The online test bank is an invaluable resource! I read the book twice and then do the test questions and have never had a problem passing. I highly recommend this book. Note to publishers: please use thicker stock paper, this edition the paper stock was much thinner that previous editions; I like to underline, highlight and write a lot of notes in the book, the thicker stock paper is better suited for this.
