- Reviewed in the United States on July 2, 2016Five important things to know about this purchase:
1. This book has audio examples of dozens of important auscultory findings.
2. Only the print edition comes with the online access to sound files.
3. The text is not particularly well organized, there is lots of repetition.
4. There are ~100 sound files on the website. The sound quality is good.
5. BUT: the sound files are not numbered on the website (and are only referenced by number in the book), making it a pain to find the right file if you ever want to go back and forth between sounds. And you are forced to "live stream" the file the first time it is played, every time, and you have to sit through a woman explaining the sound for 20 seconds before you hear it. So if you want to compare sounds, you have to wait 30+ seconds between sounds. The sound files should really be changed in the next edition - separate the explanation and the actual sound into paired files, or put the explanation afterwards in a single file. Only by comparing similar sounds can you really refine the differences to the ear.
Bottom line: if you want to train your ear to distinguish auscultory findings there are few options in terms of published materials. This book looks nice and has a nice website, but the text itself is mediocre in organization and content, and the critical part, the sound files, are a pain to use. Unlike EKG books that actually train you up over hundreds of (annotated) examples, this book includes usually 1 example of a sound, usually without context (e.g., for breath sounds, am I hearing inspiration or expiration first? Where is the stethoscope?). So it's really little different than what a nursing or medical student would get by lecture during preclinical years. You are not likely to be much better at auscultating after reading/listening to this book than you were before.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 1, 2014This is an excellent book that has simplified a very complicated topic. I downloaded it only my kindle hoping that I'd have access to the website that had the audio tracks to what is being described. Is it just for the print edition? I've looked everywhere and I cannot seem to find where it states that. I would appreciate feedback from the publisher/Kindle.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 28, 2019The best part of this book is the online resource where you can actually listen to abnormal lungs and heart sounds. Loved it

4.0 out of 5 stars LIBRO
Va bene per futuri medici che vogliono imparare l'auscultazione che non insegnano all'università. Consigliato appunto a tutti gli studenti di medicina
