- Reviewed in the United States on October 15, 2014Many members of my family are golfers. I well remember one wedding we went to when my entire car was dedicated to carrying golf clubs. Most of the relatives are pretty decent golfers, but one of them seems to be a natural. He seemingly walks into tournaments and walks out with the prize.
He may be a natural, but one thing I have noticed about him is that he continually works on his game. He instinctively knows where his problem areas are and tries to improve upon them. Golfing is a hobby he loves, but if he wants to enjoy it rather than be frustrated with his performance he wants to learn more about it.
At first when I looked a “Golf, Steps to Success,” I thought it was a tad simplistic. I’ve read some very detailed books and liked them. What’s different is the fact that this is a progressive book and one can actually work on their game and “score” his or her success.
This book “represents a compilation of the knowledge, skills, strategies, and drills [they] have used in working with successful golfers at all levels of the game.” Basically we’re looking at game form, appreciation, tactical awareness, decision making, skill execution, and performance. The book is a guide that will help in all these areas.
Each section helps the golfer to think about missteps and learn how to correct them. There are a lot of drills to work on problematic areas. One can choose the difficulty level by increasing or decreasing it. Suggestions are given for each one. After looking carefully, I decided that yes indeed, this book is an excellent guide for all golfing levels. It can be used by the beginner, the advanced golfer, or most certainly by the instructor.
The book is has numerous instructional, full-color photographs. The front of the book is perfect for the beginner with discussions from everything like equipment to keeping a scorecard and the basic rules. In the back there’s just a bit more encouragement in a chapter entitled “Continue to Improve.” Below I’ve listed some of the drills, an indicator of what you’ll be taking a look at in this book.

- Reviewed in the United States on October 9, 2014I received this book Second Edition of Golf--Steps to Success by Paul Schempp and Peter Mattsson even though I am 89 I love any book about golf. I have been there and back with golf instruction books and getting your mind set about the game of golf. I found this book steps to success a good instructional manual for any golfer at any age. While I am still playing golf some things about pressure of a tournament or getting upset over bad shots is in the past but still of interest to me.
The authors went overboard and everything you should know about golf is in this book from beginning to end it is covered. It does not hurt to go over everything from putting to your mental attitude while playing your everyday round, in a scramble or a big event. Golf is obsessive it controls out life but we need to relax and enjoy a lovely day on the golf course, This book will put you in a mellow mood and absorb the many helpful tip so read it and practice what they teach.
The book includes a plentiful supply of pictures to demonstrate each and every step along the way of golf. The authors begin their book from scratch, clubs, balls, scoring with lessons on putting and continue through to the mental part of the game no pictures here, just good advice. If you are a long time player you soon realize that the putts of an eighteen hole round make up most of your total score. Pay attention here with their good suggestion and tips so practice every time you come to play. Even practice putting at home on your carpet or wood floor to hit the putt true on the face.
Pay close attention to the last chapter The Mental Game of Golf, this is so important. To perform at your best on the golf course is requires you to be relaxed and control of your emotions. Do not let your mistakes control you and they will multiply as your game goes on. There will come a time when you slip into the flow or the zone and it all falls into place so relax and let those good shots flow.
Second Edition Golf Steps to Success is a large size book so it is not easy to carry around it is a paperback book with a glossy cover. - Reviewed in the United States on July 28, 2014If you/ve never picked up a golf club or watched golf on TV, and, basically, know nothing about the sport, this is the book for you. The authors open with some emphasis on rules/penalties, which is a bit off-putting, but hang in there the basics are coming with lots of drills to help you get ready to play.
