- Reviewed in the United States on February 19, 2024Very helpful for all stages in the dogs life from adolescent to adult. Extremely helpful guide to help you train your dog properly. Never yell at your puppy you will have to deal with a dog that darts from you not fun and never say their name to come to you for anything negative or unfun for the dog I want to say on from my experience. Only use their name and call them 1 time and have toys treats or a leash to go outside for a walk only fun things if they don't respond to the 1 call go pick them up or go to them slowly at their level and never make your dog scared of you. This was my 1st puppy ever and he's making me earn his trust but I potty trained him in 3 days at 13 weeks old when I got him. ;)
- Reviewed in the United States on February 15, 2024This is the book I wish I started with, rather than any other book on the topic of dogs or GSD’s. A lot more than just about training your GSD. The book deals with bringing a puppy or rescue into your house, acclimating them to people and other animals, dealing with common GSD behavioral ticks - and they have a lot of the - and so much more to help ease bringing a GSD into your home and making g them a part of your family. I recommend this for anyone who has a GSD, is thinking about getting a GSD and especially those who working through behavioral issues with their GSD. A lot of mistakes can be prevented by starting here.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 26, 2021The book had a lot of great information in it. I just don't 100% agree with the technique. I also think that it is important to talk about an order of steps. What should be taught first, second and so forth. I appreciate the section on socializing.

- Reviewed in the United States on November 18, 2019One of the authors is a dog trainer and the other is a dog author and between then they give a good insight into the special training needs of the German Shepherd Dog. They go through the different types of puppies, shy, confident, older and younger and help to give you an idea into the German Shepherd dog's mind and how they will respond well to training. I will be putting some of the training advice into practice.
The book also has some lovely color photos of puppies and adult dogs. Would recommend.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 25, 2020Very good instructions for GSD dogs. They are by far the best dogs if trained. We are still learning. Lots of laughs. I am 78 and mine was a handful the first year but now she is my companion and never leaves my side. She is 95 pounds of energy. They are a 24/7 dog and very smart. And if I’m in bed not feeling well she will stay beside me till I get up and never leaves my side. Except to go out for bathroom.

5.0 out of 5 stars Essential reading for GSD owners
An excellent source of do's and don'ts for training your GSD to be the best intelligent, clever and loving breed of dog to own. Written by American authors but totally relevant to owning Shepherds wherever you live.

5.0 out of 5 stars This is an excellent book
This is an excellent book about how to train German Shepherds. I have found it very useful in training my own puppy. The tips are practical and easy to follow. This book also explains behaviors of the dogs so I know why my puppy acts the way she does. It also goes into detail about unwanted behavior's some German Shepherds might exhibit and ways to stop the behavior's before it's too late. There are no harsh punishments for German Shepherds in this book. Only positive reinforcements and rewards which is the only way I would ever train a dog. I would highly recommend this book.
