A picture book celebrating the power of hugs from award-winning creators, author Lisa Wheeler and illustrator Lisk Feng

A Hug Is for Holding Me is a sweet, cozy book about love and affection and invites children to engage with the natural world in a fresh, new way. Some hugs are tight and some hugs are snug . . . but guess who gives the BEST hugs?

“Feng’s artwork is lovely, stylized flora and fauna filling the pages, and the love between the two is evident.” —Kirkus Reviews

“Using allusions to nature, Wheeler writes lyrically about what a hug can be . . . Detailed art by Feng has a retro feel. The ornament-like abundance of insects, flowers, and other natural objects brushes this familial journey with magic.” —Publishers Weekly

Editorial Reviews

Review

"Feng's artwork is lovely, stylized flora and fauna filling the pages, and the love between the two is evident."―Kirkus Reviews

"Using allusions to nature, Wheeler writes lyrically about what a hug can be . . . Detailed art by Feng has a retro feel. The ornamentlike abundance of insects, flowers, and other natural objects brushes this familial journey with magic."―
Publishers Weekly

"Vivid illustrations portray a sumptuous environment, using many shades of green. The images invite readers to consider the settings from varying perspectives, from sweeping landscapes to extreme close-ups. The juxtaposition of the family affection and scientific information is unusual and effective."―

Nature is full of hugs if you know where to look! I love how the text & art support the young child's journey from familiar hug to natural wonders & back again. Security, curiosity, & tenderness.

A father and daughter walk through nature talking about different nature hugs from eggs nestled in a tree to seashells in the sea and comparing them to their own hugs. Unique illustrations and a sweet little story.

My personal opinion is that the concept is really complex for any child young enough to be reading with a parent. Absolutely beautiful illustrations, but I was not a fan of the writing... My 3 y.o. daughter was bored and I will not read this with her again.
