- Reviewed in the United States on June 11, 2019My wife ordered this book, but I was the first to crack it open- and then I couldn't stop reading it. The details and insights into how bees live was very interesting and the advice on how to keep them in a balanced fashion was inspirational. We have our tbh out now trying to attract our own bees and have found others who keep bees to help give us hands on experience and more tips. This book was really the jumping point for me to want to help provide a place for bees to live in a balanced fashion. Thanks Phil!
- Reviewed in the United States on January 6, 2020Well, I'm sold. This was an incredible read. It's chock full of information on both how bees function in their natural state, as well as very specific and helpful instructions on top bar hive management for a variety of different purposes. It's funny, though, information on taking honey is very, very briefly glossed over. His purpose is very clearly the well-beeing (see what I did there?) of the bees, with honey/wax for people as a happy byproduct, not the other way around. Great read. He's got me as a convert to balanced beekeeping.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 22, 2021If you want to know about top bar beekeeping this is your beekeeping "bible". Mr Chandler covers everything from a to z. He explains the who, what, where, when & why on whats happening with your bees, and what you, as a beekeeper, should or should not do, in response. He explains everything as to what could go right and what could possibly go wrong... excellent book... highly recommend!!!
- Reviewed in the United States on February 16, 2018It is very informative, and I believe it will be helpful during this coming season of bee keeping.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 21, 2023Very well written and knowledgeable! New beekeepers should read!
- Reviewed in the United States on June 4, 2018I've read docens of books related to beekeeping and some have a small measure of bluff. Now, I can tell, this fellow knows, what He is talking about. Is very simple the way He guides you throw the iner workings of beekeeping. I strongly recomended..
- Reviewed in the United States on February 16, 2024I just wanted to know how to build and then manage a top bar hive. Too much other filler about bees and opinions for my taste.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 28, 2019Wonderful book. Well written. Philip Chandler is a very great writer and very knowledgeable. His books have persuaded me into building my own top bar hive, via his recommendations.

2.0 out of 5 stars Mi aspettavo di piu.
90% filosofia, 10% consigli pratici. Definitivamente le informazioni nel libro non bastano per gestire il top bar. Altrettanto non c'è neanche una foto utile.

5.0 out of 5 stars Really helpful guide to a better way of caring for bees
Informative, well organised, intersting. Engaged me as a reader. Will give me greater confidence to steward my bee colony.

You need to read this if you have decided on having top bar hives. Lots of info, written by an experienced and informed beekeeper. Dorcas.
