About the author

Seanan McGuire is a native Californian, which has resulted in her being exceedingly laid-back about venomous wildlife, and terrified of weather. When not writing urban fantasy (as herself) and science fiction thrillers (as Mira Grant), she likes to watch way too many horror movies, wander around in swamps, record albums of original music, and harass her cats.
Seanan is the author of the October Daye, InCryptid, and Indexing series of urban fantasies; the Newsflesh trilogy; the Parasitology duology; and the "Velveteen vs." superhero shorts. Her cats, Lilly, Alice, and Thomas, are plotting world domination even as we speak, but are easily distracted by feathers on sticks, so mankind is probably safe. For now.
Seanan's favorite things include the X-Men, folklore, and the Black Death. No, seriously. She writes all biographies in the third person, because it's easier that way.

- Reviewed in the United States on June 8, 2019When I was a teen, Spider Gwen was the only comic I cared about. The rest were so....about the boys. Girl heros were an after thought. Imagine my delight when one of my favorite Urban Fantasy authors announced she was writing the next chapter in Spider Gwen's life!
Ghost Gwen is perfect- walks the line between retro Marvel and Girrl Power perfectly. I like these bound additions because I'm a reader, not a collector. I imagine they would be ideal for classrooms, libraries, or multi kid households as well.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 15, 2022Great Spider-Gwen vol.1 fun to read.
- Reviewed in the United States on June 15, 2019This volume should only be read after reading the previous volumes/issues. But then again, not everything has to be read in order. I started getting into Spider-Gwen and it was exciting to find out that there was a new story. My order came fine with some small bend parts, but overall, it was good!
- Reviewed in the United States on August 18, 2019McGuire takes on an increasingly complex storyline and manages to, in a ruthless and glorious manner, wrap a deep reality of grief and responsibility around a multiverse. Deep notes of fear, illness, acceptance, and resilience. An accessible and masterful read.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 10, 2019In order to understand this book, it needs to be read in the proper order in the Spider-Geddon arc. I started it and quickly realized that, stopped and read the issues that occur before, then returned to the story. (I used my link text to make sure I was reading everything in the proper order.)
Seanan McGuire killing it once again! I loved her take on Spider-Gwen. She's such a rounded out character, you see her humor, the pain that she tries to mask with the humor, the way she cares and what she's willing to do to save people.
The stories are so good as well, I was completely caught up in everything!
I would highly recommend this book.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 18, 2019Gwen is dealing with the aftermath of Spider-geddon and trying to find her place in the world. I’ve never been a huge spider fan but Gwen is a wonderful hero and I can’t wait to read more of her adventures.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 28, 2019So good! Now all we need is Seanan McGuire on an ongoing X book! Can’t wait for vol 2!
- Reviewed in the United States on October 4, 2019Gwen Stacy has a new alias but is as cool as ever.

5.0 out of 5 stars Does whatever a spider woman can!
With this being my first outing into the world of spider Gwen in comic form I must say I was not disappointed.
Although there are a lot of callbacks to previous story arcs (spider verse, spidergeddon) it didn’t leave me feeling lost having not read those issues. Instead it sets the stage for a cool new arc with great artwork and characters with actual emotion.
