- Reviewed in the United States on June 26, 2018The best advice a physician ever received. Timeless. Beautifully written. Absolutely required reading for any dedicated physician.
Healthcare is not medicine. For all the dedicated physicians who still still practice medicine this book is survival.

- Reviewed in the United States on February 20, 2015Though outdated in areas of technology and culture, the personal advice is timeless. He seems to completely omit the imperatives of family life and demands. [I read this after practicing 48 years in medicine / ophthalmology.]
- Reviewed in the United States on January 16, 2015Osler is a grand old man physician, a practical man and a humble reader of classics. This is a collection of his talks, generally to medical school classes and I find them somewhat pedestrian, somewhat dated. His stacked references to Wordsworth, Tennyson, Shakespeare are heavy-handed: to a lover of all lit (which I am), it's easy to appreciate his efforts. Historically, to read what young doctors were listening to, this is valuable and Osler does hit some timeless concepts as well. The essay or talk on teaching is the best.
The volume reproduces the 1900-style print, which is not lovely, but emphasizes the historical position.
A useful and thoughtful book for someone interested in the history or sociology of American Medicine.

5.0 out of 5 stars OSLERIANA
As a medical student, I had been introduced to the thoughts of William Osler physician and teacher par excellence. I had read Aequinimitas but lost the copy of the book. I was delighted to find it on Amazon Kindle edition. I am now savouring an old favourite. This book is aimed at guiding medical graduates through the painful process of attending to human suffering, and yet remaining detached. Hence the name which means "Equanimity". For the medical practitioner in touch with hman suffering.
