Review
"Our way of relating to food in contemporary culture has been twisted by fear, unmet needs for love, and the need to control. In this brilliant and groundbreaking book, you'll discover a powerful way to let go of "dieting" and awaken an intimate, intuitive connection with your body, mind, and spirit." Tara Brach, author of Radical Acceptance and True Refuge
"With great insight and compassion, Heidi offers a way out of the common struggle with diet and weight. She supports her "10 steps" with a compelling blend of professional experience, personal experience, and scientific evidence that addresses not only our relationship with food but also our deep need for self-acceptance and a way of life that nurtures mind, body, and soul. Bravo!" Susan Kano, author of Making Peace with Food
"If you're looking for a book that will help you feel more sane and comfortable around food while learning to eat more nutritiously, Nourish is an excellent choice. Heidi provides a blend of her personal recovery experience and professional and clinical wisdom that will guide you well on the road to recovery." Karen R. Koenig, MEd, LCSW, author of seven books on improving eating and self-care
"Heidi guides people to stop relentlessly trying again and again without experiencing change. This book offers a motivating, realistic lens to change how you listen to your hunger (physically and emotionally) and to make choices that bring peace and nourishment. Nourish is like no other book I've read, and it is a gift to the health field and the world in general. Bravo." Hannah Saxe, LICSW, Therapist and Eating Disorder Specialist
"Nourish is the much-needed book that integrates the science of nutrition with holistic and attuned self-care. Heidi provides practical guidance on how to eat but within the context of intuitive self-knowledge. This is literally the only nutrition book I feel safe recommending to my clients. Thank you, Heidi!" Marci Evans, MS, CEDRD-S, LDN, cPT, Food and Body Image Healer; eating disorders expert
"I have read so many books on food, diet, and health, and I finally feel I can stop. Heidi's book reminds us that we are all unique and that, instead of looking for the "right" way to eat from the experts, all of the answers are actually inside ourselves. Our bodies know. This book is filled with great advice, real stories, and examples. Ultimately, Heidi is a reassuring guide, helping us find our way back to natural, healthy, intuitive eating" Ingrid Kelada, psychologist and author of 21 Days to Happiness
"Heidi has met the challenge of putting her nutrition-counseling techniques into written form, allowing the ripples of her work to spread far beyond those lucky individuals who get to meet with her in person." Jessica Setnick, MS, RD, CEDRD, author of The Eating Disorders Clinical Pocket Guide and Eating Disorders Boot Camp
"This is a must-read for anyone working with people struggling with eating disorders or disordered eating. Heidi's own personal experience and honest examination of this topic are inspiring and very hopeful. So many of her statements about recovery will stick with me forever. Heidi walks people through the process of recovery in a non-critical manner and does this with ease. This book was a joy to read, and I will be recommending it to all of my clients." Beth Mayer, LICSW, Executive Director of MEDA, The Multi-Service Eating Disorders Association

- Reviewed in the United States on November 7, 2023This book is truly amazing and really helped change my mindset about a lot of things. Heidi writes with such empathy and compassion that I truly appreciated when reading this book. Nourish provides the reader with insight from personal and professional experience, which makes the steps highlighted in this book so clear and engaging. It touches on very important aspects of having a healthy relationship with food and your body, addressing how messages from today’s society can make this more difficult. I think that this book is extremely important and I would recommend it to everyone! As diet culture becomes more prominent, I am hopeful that this book can make a change and help many people.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 12, 2018I read this book in a day because I couldn't put it down. Although I have never had an eating disorder I think most people have had some issue with food and their bodies. I'm often surrounded by my co-workers that have given up this food, or on that diet or now taking some type of supplement to speed up the process of losing weight. This book a great job of reframing my thinking around how judgmental we can be about ourselves and the negative thoughts that go through our head. I appreciated the mindfulness tips and used a few today as I started to wolf down my lunch while checking emails and not even realizing what I was eating. And then after a long exhausting day as I wanted to binge on chips I stopped and asked myself why I really wanted to do this and what was the cause of it. This helped me get in touch with the reasons I wanted to do this and made me pause and reflect on the day. And I didn't eat the chips!
Like the author said, read it and take what will work for you and then leave the rest. She didn't force a program or a way of eating on you but made you stop to question things that goes beyond eating. I will be reading this again to take even more in and sharing with friends. The title is Nourish but it goes way beyond how to nourish yourself with food but really how to feed your soul and move beyond that negative talk to be okay with who you are.
I think this would be a great book for a book club - and now I need to start or find one to join!
So settle in with a hot cup of tea and take what works for you and leave the rest. Nourish yourself.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 18, 2019If you have read "Inuitive Eating" by Evelyn Tribole & Elyse Resch and/or "Self Compassion" by Dr. Kristin Neff, this is a nice companion book for both. Like a nice mix. It is about learning to trust your body and self when it comes to food, movement, our emotions, self-care, & community.
This is a great book for unwrapping a lot of the diet mentality and learning how to listen to our bodies and have more compassion for them. Nourishment isn't just about food, but about feeling fulfilled in who we are and the lives we live and the love we give and dare to ask for.
This is such a needed book especially for those who are still scrolling through Amazon looking for that one diet book with that one diet that is finally going to fix them. No diet will fix you because you are not broken. There is nothing wrong with you. Read this book. Heidi's words are so important and so needed. Learn to sit with yourself - body, cravings, emotions, needs - and feel them all. This book will help you do this and I am thankful Heidi wrote this book, a book of truth in a sea of lies and deception and shaming.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 17, 2019I adored every word of this book. It was the perfect mix of nutritional information (nutrition common sense, as she calls it) mixed with advice on how to become your own health guru and heal from a disordered relationship with food. I have read endless books on health and nutrition that force one way of eating down your throat. The authors of these books make themselves out to be the expert of your body and your dietary needs, which really makes zero sense when you sit back and think about it. Of course we know our own bodies better than anyone else out there! Heidi does the exact opposite in Nourish; she shows you the way out of food drama and endless confusion about what to eat and guides you to confidently take control of your own health. She teaches the practices of intuitive eating and mindfulness around food in an extremely understandable, relatable way. I would suggest this book (really over any others) to anyone on the journey to healing their relationship with food. And the truth is, this book does far more than just address your relationship with food; it also goes deep into your relationship with self and your level of fulfillment and joy in life. I can't say enough good things about this deep and purposeful work of art. Job well done, Heidi. I hope word about this book continues to grow and it gets into the hands of as many people as possible. I certainly will do whatever I can to make that happen!
- Reviewed in the United States on June 23, 2021Like others have stated, this book has literally changed my life. This review cannot encapsulate how much I adore “Nourish”. After over 20 years of dieting and hating my body, I found this book and it has been absolutely amazing. For the first time in my life, I have finally let go of dieting, weighing myself daily, and forcing my body to move in ways that do not nourish me. I’ve begun to accept me for me, and nourish my body in nonjudgmental ways. These changes have been simultaneously frightening and liberating. It scary learning how to let go of diet culture and listen to my body. Heidi makes this mindset shift easier through providing methods to discover why you diet or dislike your body and strategies to implement into daily life to help move you to a place of self love and appreciation. “Nourish” has completely changed my perspective on food and my body, how I talk to myself, and how I treat myself. I honestly cannot recommend this book enough. The time to stop not enjoying/appreciating/loving you for you is now. GET THIS! GAME CHANGER! 🙌

5.0 out of 5 stars Compact and Powerful
This book has had a big impact on my life. I've been working with it for almost a year. I had read parts of other books on intuitive eating, but some of them were overwhelming in terms of information overload and a lot of exercises. This book is compact and powerful--you can go back to it again and again. The author is knowledgeable and compassionate, and the atmosphere of the book is calm. I appreciate that she gives some basic nutrition advice to help guide eating decisions as well. I've used this book to go to a deeper level with my healing. The references to other books and modalities has been useful as well as it led me to learn more about Nonviolent Communication, which has been a powerful influence too. Thank you to the author! I'm so grateful you made this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Lifechanging book!!
the best book I have ever read about nutrition, but it is so much more than just a book about nutrition! Life changing book and best helper to release and free oneself from all the should‘s and shouldn’ts about foodrules in our minds and finally be able to learn again how to listen to our body. Thank you for your work Heidi!

5.0 out of 5 stars Gem of a book
This is a true gem of a book, one of my very favourites on the topic of food and body. It manages to be both practical and philosophical. I am happy to report that my relationship with food is so much better now. My life is bigger and brighter. I will return to this book over time and recommend it if you struggle in any way.

5.0 out of 5 stars Loved it!
I want to thank you for writing your book. I am from a small town in Manitoba and finding resources is hard! I grew up with a lot of trauma and I keep it mostly to myself because of the way some small town people can be so judgemental and rude. I feel very secluded and fatphobia is extreme where I live. I have come a long way with my recovery from childhood, extreme yo-yo dieting for 26 years(started at 7) and my spiritual practice. Your book ties it all together perfectly. I did most of my healing through online resources. It is so important for small town people like myself to have these options. It makes me feel so not alone in this movement when swimming against the tide in my community. Thank you so, so much.

5.0 out of 5 stars Peaceful and wise advice
I have just finished the book and it is JUST wanted I needed. Heidi speaks in such a kind, encouraging tone. I’ve been trying to ‘lose the baby weight’ and have been feeling so chaotic and stressed. I no longer want weight to be my motivator, but want to go slow, learning to listen to my body. Thank you so much Heidi!
