About the authors
Rebekah Bernard, MD was born in Miami and grew up in the small, rural town of Clewiston, Florida. The oldest child of Registered Nurse parents, she grew up on tales of medical care which inspired an interest in becoming a physician.
Dr. Bernard attended college at the University of Florida, majoring in sociology while completing her required pre-medical science courses. She was awarded the National Health Service Corps scholarship to attend the University of Miami where she graduated in 1999. She completed her residency in Family Medicine at Florida Hospital in Orlando, Florida, and was board certified in 2002.
Following residency, Dr. Bernard completed her National Health Service Corps service obligation in the rural town of Immokalee, Florida at a Federally Qualified Health Center. While working in this community, she was a preceptor for medical students from Nova Southeastern Osteopathic Medical School and the FSU School of Medicine. After completing her required four years, Dr. Bernard continued to serve the community of Immokalee for an additional two years before transitioning to a hospital outpatient medical group, where she worked in private practice for more than five years. - Reviewed in the United States on January 20, 2019I have been a practicing Doctor of Physical Therapy in Private Practice for 28 years and have seen incredible changes in "the system". Sadly the changes have caused exponential decline in what matters most for the patient, and have taken the joy out of working in medicine. This book is fantastic! I could not put it down. Every chapter is relevant and helpful. What I learned in the book is already being put into practice. Since reading the book I am encouraged again that although the administrative burden around us is oppressive, there truly is a way to overcome it. We are all pressed for time. Taking the time to read this book will prove to be a great investment. Enjoy!
- Reviewed in the United States on August 17, 2018I am not a doctor, but read this because I have a good friend who is in medical school and I thought it would give me some insight. I realized that this book is not just for doctors, it is for anyone who experiences difficulty with finding balance in their lives. They cover so many common everyday problems that, as I read each chapter, I felt like they knew me. This book offers a lot of ideas about managing conflict and communicating more effectively. It is easy to read and I kept thinking - wow, that makes sense! I highly recommend reading this book, it is a life changer.

- Reviewed in the United States on April 10, 2020I ordered this book a few months ago. Just read it with the spare time I have during the pandemic. I highly recommend this book, as a physician “ “burning out”. The authors cover areas that hit home for me . Well written and very helpful.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 9, 2018Dr Bernard does it again. I learned so much about practice management and physician well being. I love the practical information provided in this book. As a practicing family physician, I found this book extremely helpful and practical. I learned new ways to become more efficient as well.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 17, 2018I often attend lectures about "Physician Burnout" that focus on things that hospitals and clinics can do to help doctors. Yeah, that's great - but it requires a lot of OTHER people to do work that they may or may not do. This book is written for the individual DOCTOR - things that we can do on our own that can improve our own wellness, and a lot more concrete than just "go do yoga" or "meditate." I feel really motivated to make changes in my life and take back control.
