About the authors
SUZANNE SCHLOSBERG is a writer and editor known for her lighthearted take on health and parenting topics, whether it’s bedwetting, infertility, or the travails of breastfeeding twins.
Suzanne has collaborated with pediatric urologist Steve Hodges, M.D., on two books: IT’S NO ACCIDENT and the illustrated children’s book BEDWETTING AND ACCIDENTS AREN’T YOUR FAULT. She also blogs with Dr. Hodges at itsnoaccident.net, a website offering support and solutions for childhood toileting problems.
Among Suzanne’s other collaborations: THE GOOD NEIGHBOR COOKBOOK, with chef Sara Quessenberry, THE ULTIMATE DIET LOG, with nutritionist Cynthia Sass, creator of the New York Times bestseller Flat Belly Diet, and WEIGHT TRAINING FOR DUMMIES, with exercise expert Liz Neporent.
Suzanne is solely responsible for THE CURSE OF THE SINGLES TABLE: A TRUE STORY OF 1001 NIGHTS WITHOUT SEX, a chronicle of her epic dry spell, which lasted longer than the Kennedy administration. Suzanne married the redhead who ended her drought, and thanks to high-tech handiwork she recounted in “I Used an Egg Donor,” Suzanne and her husband have twin boys. They live in Bend, Oregon, which Suzanne considers the best place on earth.
I'm an artist and writer. Painting and color are my first loves among other passions. (I have a roomy heart with a lot of other loves.) My book, Paint Happy (2002, 2004, North Light Books, F+W) has been kicking it for over 2 decades, so I'm revising it for Summer 2023 release. Illustrating books the old-school analog way is fun (call me if you have a project). I love to cook, SUP paddle and travel in my Casita trailer with my bestie. No matter where I go, I mentally repaint the exteriors and interiors of buildings -- building architectural color groupings is a compulsion (I've been a color consultant for a couple of decades). Paintings, books and color schemes migrate through my mind waiting for me to give them all a chance. I hope I live long enough. Along with all things beautiful, I've been trying something new. I co-wrote my husband, Tolley Marney's memoir with him. It's a complex blend of dark and light - available Spring 2023.

- Reviewed in the United States on July 3, 2019This book was Life changing for us, the beginning of something new and, gulp, sadness to realize I'd been blaming the kiddo for accidents For Years :( Until I realized it was NOT HIS FAULT.
If you want to talk parenting, find the "It's No Accident" book for yourself. But THIS was the book to help my kiddo see, in beautiful illustrations, what exactly is happening with his body and WHY he's having accidents.
My kiddo is now almost 10 and we still go back to the illustrations -- the FireHose.... this is a rock in your body, this is water attacking that rock. And it's going to take time. But how else do you think that rock will disappear?
I needed it. He needed it.
And I've now sent this kiddo version of the book to family who question about constipation/ accidents in any way. It's So well spelled out the science behind the body and how to manage it. Thank you thank you for this book.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 12, 2023Parents of kids with encopresis or enuresis: Read The M.O.P. Anthology by the same authors as this book to learn more about your kids' condition and how to help them. Once you know what you need to do, this book can help the kids get on board.
After reading this book a few times, my 4-year-old (suffering from encopresis and enuresis and unable to talk about it at all) asked if she could have an enema. It took a few more weeks of talking about it and reading the book for us to actually do it, but now it's an easy part of our daily routine that is helping her rectum heal.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 5, 2018So we didn't force our son to read this. I purchased it and my son saw it on the calendar and loved all the bright colors so he wanted me to read it. It really helped him understand why at 4+ years of age he was having accidents. It also helped him understand why we needed to use enemas to help him get over his issues.
We are on day 34 of MOP for ourselves and our poop accidents are virtually non-existent. Our pee accidents have reduced probably by 90%. For a set of parents who were washing out underwear or throwing it away daily it has been a huge leap for our family.
As a side note. One of the "tweaks" we made to the process is that we use the liquid glycerin suppositories (LGS)for our son regularly. However, on days where he's had a night time accident we use the fleet enema knowing that he has more blockage on that day than others. The fleet enemas get more out than the LGS but take longer to work. On the first day we used the enema he didn't poop right away. He looked at me defeated and said "Am I going to have an accident today?" 30 seconds later evacuation occurred and he was happy as a lark and relieved. His whole demeanor has changed because he is not afraid of what will come during the day.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 26, 2017The book was really helpful. My son was able to understand his treatment plan and was prepared when we started doing the enemas. I like the way it explains what is happening and how to fix it in a way my child could understand. My only complaint is the format of the ebook was a bit complicated to navigate
- Reviewed in the United States on April 22, 2019My son began soiling his underwear shortly after successfully potty training at 3 yrs old. At first we thought he wasn’t actually potty trained and just needed more time. After a year or so, we consulted pediatrician who said it was ok and he’d grow out of it. My son soiled his underwear for years. We tried EVERYTHING. Rewards, punishments, sticker charts, timed sits after meals, etc. Sometimes we’d get a week without accidents, sometimes they were every day. It was unpredictable and was incredibly difficult for my son to deal with. He began hiding undies, lying about accidents, and often insisting he didn’t have to go- only to have an accident sometimes just minutes after. Sometimes feces would drop out of his pant leg onto the floor! Shortly before his 7th birthday, one day I begged him to tell me WHY he had an accident (as I’d done many times before), and he said something he’d never said before - “I didn’t feel it coming out”. I did some research and found the term encopresis and information about it being caused by constipation. We went to a pediatric GI specialist who prescribed Lactulose 2x a day and timed sits after meals. Every 3 months we’d go back for follow up and he’d feel my son’s belly for 2 minutes and then say keep doing what you’re doing - it’ll get better with time. We did that. For 2 1/2 years. Accidents never stopped. The longest ever clean at a time, was a week and a half. Then, he started having urine accidents. That’s when I found MOP in a google search about enuresis and encopresis.
I was desperate. I joined an encopresis support group on Facebook and asked the parents there about MOP. Some had heard about it having good success rate. I bought this book - my son and I read it together. OH MY GOSH, he looked so relieved as we read it. He wanted to try the MOP protocol, so we did. Rest is history! It’s been 6 months and he is accident free!!!! He has regained the tone and sensation and is now in control of his bowel movements. He can feel when he has to go!!!
Parents: if your child is encopretic and it is caused by either withholding or chronic constipation, THIS is the book you need to get your child on board with MOP. Onto a path of healing.
MOP - It really really works!
- Reviewed in the United States on March 7, 2021This book, together with Dr. Hodges M.O.P. program, have truly changed my 8 year-old son's life and my life as well! We struggled for quite a few years with pee and poop accidents, saw a GI doctor and a pediatric urologist but had no improvement in his symptoms until we started Dr. Hodges' program. I'm especially thankful for how this book presents the information in a way that kids can understand it. I could see the relief in my son's eyes when he realized that millions of other kids have accidents. It helped our whole family to understand the symptoms our son was experiencing. My son also really liked Dr. Pooper's Activity Book.

5.0 out of 5 stars A game changer for children (and their family) suffering with encopresis
Whilst the format of this book is quirky, the message and information contained within it is essential for anyone whose child has struggled for years with encopresis, as ours has. A daily enema regimen (along lots of patience and support) was the game changer for us and we’re finally making great progress

5.0 out of 5 stars Great book for overcoming toileting problems
Great book for overcoming toileting problems. Funny and child friendly. My daughter loves it as it helps her on her way to recovery. Great illustrations for young minds. The book conveys necessary steps so the child grasps it and is able to cooperate with the process.

4.0 out of 5 stars Informative for kids
Great book for kids to understand how constipation can impact wet accidents with good illustration. Information that is easily found through a quick Google search or talk with doctor/OT though.

4.0 out of 5 stars Helped our daughter understand why she had accidents and gave her more confidence.
This book has been really good for us. It made my 7yo feel 'normal' and she proactively wanted to show and read it to other family members. It send such a strong psychological message that there is a book that explains accidents and reiterates it is not their fault!
It is 'Americanised' in the language and how it is written which is the reason for 4 star not 5.
