About the author

"If you are not an Immortal, you have no right to read this book." This saying is from the Tao Tsan (the Taoist Treasure). I have translated this book to let everyone have the right to read this book. The Herbal Surgeon's original name is "The Surgical Manual of Immortal Secrets". I kept it in my study for nearly thirty years. Time showed that this was for a special reason. A few years ago, I treated a friend's disease with impressive results. This convinced me to translate the Immortal's Secrets to English.
The School of Taoism has various emphasis: Philosophy, Charity, Arts, Music, Martial Arts, Medical/Health, Longevity.... However, it's emphasis on Charity really touches my heart. That is why the medical health research is the central core of my study. "Saving a life is even better than building a seven floor pagoda." May this book heal the wounds of many broken hearts.

- Reviewed in the United States on August 12, 2011For the depth of information in this book, it is surprisingly easy to read. Mr. Hwang has a very frank and clear style. This is clearly for advanced practitioners/doctors, but it is still accessible to anyone with interest. There may not be another book in the English language that includes much of this content - if there is I doubt it is anywhere as easy to understand. Great book, glad I bought it.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 23, 2020The information presented is clear and direct. I attended a seminar given by Mr. Hwang. His insight and wisdom are evident in person and in his writing. I highly recommend The Herbal Surgeon.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 1, 2011What makes this books so valuable is the huge detail going into the herbal formulas. Not recommended as a light read or for someone who is unfamiliar with Chinese Medicine...But if you have the background you won't be disappointed. Shifu Huang has done a great job compiling some of the ancient knowledge from the rich past of Chinese Medical Thought.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 25, 2011Already familiar with health benefits of Chinese herbs, I found this book to be rich in providing answers to the how, what, and why of eastern medicine. The explanations and recipes are so clear that even I can follow them. However, I am not a physician and would never consider actually applying these solutions without a practiced guide. Shifu Hwang has left a wonderful legacy to the Western world of medicine through the writing of this book. Let's hope that many physicians will discover and apply his great wisdom.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 25, 2011Shifu has written an excellent text to share the knowledge handed down through time to his family. He holds nothing back and has delivered his personal practical application of the lessons within. He has practiced what he has written to help others and promote the general health of those around him. I am confident that others will find it interesting and helpful in promoting health by natural means. Thank you for your good will and willingness to share your knowledge with the rest of us.
