Power System Analysis Third Edition 3rd Edition

4.5 out of 5 stars 36 ratings

Power System Analysis Third Edition is designed for senior undergraduate or graduate electrical engineering students studying power system analysis and design. The book gives readers a thorough understanding of the fundamental concepts of power system analysis and their applications to real-world problems. MATLAB and SIMULINK, ideal for power system analysis, are integrated into the text, which enables students to confidently apply the analysis to the solution of large power systems with ease. In the third edition, Chapter 1 is revised comprehensively to include energy resources and their environmental impacts. It covers various fossil-fuel power plants as well as all modern power plants using renewable energy sources. Also, this chapter includes discussion of the emergence of the smart grid and the role of power electronics in modern power systems.
The book includes a CD-ROM containing the author developed Power System Toolbox.

The book by Saadat is really good for the undergraduate students of electrical power engineering. The book is excellent for the students' level: the mathematics is enough and easy to understand. The most unique feature of the book is that it extensively uses Matlab and Simulink for the simulations of numerical problems - both as solved examples and end problems - presented in the book. I certainly would recommend this book as a textbook to my students in the courses of Power System Analysis, and Power System Operation and Control.

This book is well written, I am through Chapter 5 and have found only two errors (extremely low by today's standards). The concepts are fairly difficult, so it helps to have a lecture to go along with the book. The biggest strength of this book is the extensive library of Matlab code included on the CD, they go along with the book and are even mentioned in the example problems. After working 4 hours to hand-solve a complex problem, it is satisfying to witness Matlab verify your work in seconds.

This book includes the very essential theories, calculation methods and simulation by means of Matlab Power System Toolbox regarding Electrical Power System Analysis topic. I also notice this book is used as one of the the main reference books or textbooks of Electrical Power Engineering Degree Programs in many universities.

I am a graduate student at Power Engineering and still using this worthwhile book. Dr. Saadat covers almost all of the useful topics in power systems in this book well; and absolutely easy to understand. If you want to work or study in power, I strongely recommend you to have this book as a nice reference!
