- Reviewed in the United States on November 13, 2017I buy this book for everyone who is a woman or does or might want to sleep with a woman. I have gifted more than a dozen copies. This is an absolute must for anyone who comes in intimate contact with a woman or non-binary person (including themselves!). The book is trans-inclusive but not cis exclusive. Although it is clearly written with the woman for woman crowd in mind, my polyamorous and hetero friends have all found something useful. Every person I know who has read this book is having better sex (seriously, a 100% success rate) and many are finding the communication skills advocated in this book are crossing over to non-sex situations and improving the relationship holistically. A broad swath of topics are covered and most questions you’re too embarrassed to ask are answered.
Admittedly, the road trip narrative sort of bumbles along (sometimes awkwardly) but is easily forgiven for the wealth of cleverly imparted knowledge. While this could be considered a manual of sorts, I find the wit, word play, and casual writing style make it just as enjoyable for everyday reading. Sometimes I leave it out as a coffee table book. I also must say that no other book (or any source that I know of) is as honest about the realities of intimacy or normalizes bodies as well as this one, and for that alone it is worth its considerable weight in gold.

- Reviewed in the United States on March 25, 2016Girl Sex 101 is the best book on sex I’ve ever read.If you are a woman and/or you have sex with women, PLEASE read this book. It tackles a diverse range of voices and issues, including including trans women, intersex women, disabled women, plus size women, women who deal with chronic pain, women who have survived sexual trauma, asexual women, non-monogamous women, and more. It covers everything from flirting to relationship drama to enthusiastic consent to anatomy to safer sex protocols to toy basics to communication to identity exploration — in other words, a 101 review of everything you need to have mindblowingly, pantysoakingly hot sex with women and as a woman. I consider myself to be a person invested in sexual education and discussion, and I still learned so much from this book. If you’re interested, please check it out.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 10, 2022The book is wonderful, and I saw the author Allison Moon talk once. She's a wealth of wonderful knowledge, and very kind. I had a partner read the whole thing and it was still early in the relationship, but he was VERY skilled. I also sent a copy to a sexually repressed but sweet friend of mine for Xmas, and his next girlfriend is definitely going to thank me.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 15, 2021I’m a psychotherapist and bought this book for my lending library. Every teen I lend it to loves it! It’s inclusive and covers things most parents are ignorant about. It’s presented in a digestible format that’s engaging and fun for teens. Highly recommend.
- Reviewed in the United States on June 10, 2015This trans women inclusive sex positive book is awesome! (although I'm not super excited about the title). I am a sex positive non binary genderqueer parent and social worker and I think this book is great for everyone: cis, trans*, queer, and straight! I have made the book accessible to my own teens at home and with other print media for several of the youth I work/volunteer with. Each time I've observed a youth reading it they are totally engrosed! I'm glad that I can provide this gender affirming, sex positvive, relevant and informative book as a resource. I need to buy another copy since my home copy is being circulated amongst all of my teens' friends. The consistant verbal feedback I've gotten from those that have read it, myself included, is that the 'road trip' narrative can be a bit confusing to follow. Several youth had no idea until I informed them.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 9, 2016I wish I could send this book back in time to my younger self. The chapters on flirting and consent plus all the great content and examples about communication would have been so helpful. But, good news, they're totally helpful now too!
Allison Moon has wisely intuited that some of us learn better with pictures, some with facts, some from stories -- and some us work best with all three. Plus she's created a book that's very trans and bi inclusive and doesn't use the phrase "lesbian sex" to describe all the sex happening between two or more women. The interweaving of story, guest articles, text and pictures makes it fun and easy to go through and the content is phenomenal.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 12, 2017Have you ever wanted a fun way to learn about sexual education? This is one of the best sex ed books I have ever read. Not only was it informative, but it keeps you fully engaged and you want to continue pushing through to find out more information. Another thing that is great about the book, it covers a lot of topics and gives you options. A lot of books are focused on one thing or the other. This of course is called GIRL SEX 101, but there is a push that explains GIRL may not mean just one kind of person. I love that. Thank you Allison for creating such an amazing book, I look forward to more of your work!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars This book is for everyone!
Everyone should read this, not just "girls"! It's reassuring, fun to read, and proves that it is possible to write a truly inclusive book about sex. I learned loads and felt encouraged rather than intimidated. I loved the erotic story which runs throughout the book and which helps you to imagine how the various ideas could look in real life. And although I am pretty much at the cis-female end of the gender spectrum, I really loved the way Allison Moon approached the definition of "woman", and how she included a range of different voices in the book. She is also great at presenting sex as fun without implying that people who don't enjoy sex should feel bad. There is so much to love in this book, I will be recommending it to everyone I meet! If the sex ed at your school was rubbish, or if you're not sure how to talk to your teenage kids about sex, or if you'd like some specific advice on technique, this book is for you.

5.0 out of 5 stars The ultimate sex education book - for everyone!
Contains great(!) guidance on how to be a decent person, and a decent partner -- material that should form a basis of sexual education for people of all genders and sexualities.
It is fabulous and useful for everybody who deals with vaginas :) whether it would belong to a partner or to the reader themselves. It has great content for and about those women who don't have vaginas.
While not the most obvious audience, I feel like all heterosexual men should read it. Queer people are already more likely to be familiar with consent, talking about preferences, and respecting boundaries -- and heterosexual men so often don't even understand those concepts, not to mention understanding female sexuality...
Overall: 6 out of 5 stars!
