Review
I came to Dr. Melanie with concerns about my daughter's gas pains and reflux. Blake would cry throughout the day and the night as well. I tried colic medicines, the bicycle pumps with her legs, different ways of positioning her and warm baths. Nothing worked. I had heard that chiropractic adjustments could help, so I thought that I'd give it a try.
Dr. Melanie noticed tension in her spine, her stomach and suggested that I should change my diet. It was amazing! Within a week, Blake was a calmer and happier baby, and of course I was a happy mama as well. Doing an elimination diet made a noticeable difference almost immediately. Our day to day routine is much easier and less stressful on my husband and myself.
Beth P. - new mom
When Conner was about 2 months old he started to seem uncomfortable and extremely gassy which was affecting his sleep and he was no longer the happy baby we were used to. We had been going to the chiropractor since Conner was about 6 weeks old as he was lightly out of alignment from a rushed delivery. When I mentioned to Dr. Melanie Conner's new change in behaviour she suggested removing certain foods from my diet to see if it made a difference for Conner since he is breastfed.
A few weeks after removing dairy from my diet, he was a new baby. He was less gassy and was sleeping much better at night. He also returned to the happy baby we were used to. Every month I try dairy in hopes that he has grown out of this sensitivity, but like clockwork, 24 hours later he is extremely gassy and uncomfortable again.

As a father, I wish I had this book a long time ago. I still recall the frustration and sadness my wife and I felt as our colicky first-born suffered night after night. The feeling of failure was quite overwhelming. Dr. Melanie has done a masterful job of taking a super stressful subject and simplifying it for all parents. If even one parent can avoid the confusion and pain that so many go through with their newborns, Dr. Melanie has made a huge contribution.
As a practicing chiropractor, I can't wait to get this book into the hands of every one of my patients. I am constantly asked questions regarding nutrition for infants, and to have this resource in my bag of tricks will be invaluable.
Thank you, Dr. Melanie for your dedication and for sharing your brilliance.

- Reviewed in the United States on September 13, 2024I did not find this book helpful. Most of the advice it provides you with, you can easily find on the internet.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 23, 2021I expected to learn about how diet affects breastfeeding, but this is just a cookbook. The title includes the word cookbook so I guess I should have known.
The book can be read in 10 or 15 minutes. Half of it talks about eliminating possible allergens, which can be found online in my opinion. The second half is allergy free recipes.
Not worth the price, I think. If I saw it in person and flipped through the pages, I definitely wouldn't have purchased.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not practical neither inspiring
It is an odd read. It first tells you what products to avoid and then writes recipes with those ingredients... also the recipes are quite basic ones, not very inspiring. The book is black and white, it has no pictures, i.e. quite dry read, does not look like a typical modern recipe book. The book does not bend in the middle so super unpractical to cook with (need to make a picture of the page or someone holding it open for you, or dry your hands every time you want to open it while you are cooking)

2.0 out of 5 stars A bit antiquated
I liked the section talking about the foods elimination diet but I didn't like at all the recipes (which were the primary reason of my purchase), all recipes use bouillon cubes or granules and many are really simplistic.
I would recommend this book to someone who really can't cook, if you can cook - even just a little - the recipes are useless, you only need to know which foods to eliminate.

4.0 out of 5 stars Useful lists of foods to avoid
Only dislike is lack of pictures and a personal preference would be to have a lay flat spine so book stays open while cooking.
