An Excerpt from Did Adam and Eve Have Belly Buttons?
“What made God so great?"
"Strictly speaking, nothing ‘made’ God great. This question is like asking ‘What was before time?’ There is no time before time, so you cannot talk about ‘before’ or ‘after’ time. The same holds true here. God made everything. Every beautiful thing you love, every work of art or nature, every majestic mountain range, every hero you have ever admired, every moment you have ever cherished in your memory - all the awesome breathtaking things you have ever experienced - are just dim reflections of their Creator. He is not ‘like’ those things. Those things are a little bit like him, for he is their author (Gn 1).”

- Reviewed in the United States on January 26, 2016This is a great book! I purchased “Did Adam and Eve Have Belly Buttons” a few months ago, and since then have bought two more copies for people that I know. As a lay minister this book is essential in my library as it has brief and clear explanations to the many questions that teens have. It is easy to read a look through as it contains an index by keywords. Get this book for your library or a teen you know. If this book doesn’t have the answer, “Did Jesus Have A Last Name” probably will. Both are great books for any Catholic or anyone interested in the Catholic faith.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 16, 2011Yes, the title says "questions from Catholic teenagers", but I've found that many (over 90%) of Catholic adults wonder the same things, but have always been too embarassed (or too apathetic) to ask before.
Many Catholic adults do not know they're faith and therefore are stumped by these quasi-advanced questions about Catholic beliefs and practices. This book (and the follow-up Did Jesus Have a Last Name? And 199 Other Questions from Catholic Teenagers) is perfect for those Catholics who are just starting to rediscover their faith - whether because of the Baptism or First Communion of their child, or whether because they are being challenged by a non-Catholic friend - as well as for non-Catholics seeking to understand better the Catholic point-of-view.
For Catholics who are intimidated by the Catechism of the Catholic Church or apologetics books like the Handbook of Christian Apologetics or even Mere Christianity, this book would be an excellent start for answering your questions (and those of your child or friend that prompted you to wonder the same).
- Reviewed in the United States on January 27, 2025As an educator, I largely build my classroom library around student interests and student recommendations. Surprisingly, and in recent years, students have become interested in two surprising subjects; religion/philosophy, and business/finances. Several of my students this year have become interested in Catholicism as many are participating in Catholic Confirmation. As such, I am so glad to have connected with a local parish that recommended this book to me for students/teens with religious inquiries. I don't incorporate this text into my curriculum, but I am happy I could foster a love of learning, reading, and introspection within my students by acknowledging their reading interests. Happy to have this book as part of our philosophy/religion section amongst the others.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 3, 2011Not only a great resource for teens.... The format allows you to read questions and answers for younger children as well because you can skip those that are not age-appropriate. Easy to read and understand, and more information than expected regarding our faith. Great teaching aid! Highly recommend for Catholic families or anyone wanting to know more about the Catholic faith. I just purchased the follow-up book, Did Jesus Have a Last Name? And 199 Other Questions from Catholic Teenagers from the same author.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 26, 2022Great starter questions for discussions for teens
- Reviewed in the United States on January 17, 2017I highly recommend this Excellent teaching tool. Perfect for our 13-16 year old children. It was written in answer to 199 questions by 14 and 15 year old Catholic children. I purchased 100 copies 3 years ago and handed them out at Christmas to my Parish Middle School students, and the High School Confirmation Classes. I received surprisingly positive responses back from many parents who read and discussed this book with their kids. They thanked me for the quality family time they shared with their children. I am purchasing copies again to donate to Parish libraries.
- Reviewed in the United States on June 9, 2016I have a 14 yr old grandson, a 16 yr old grand daughter, and I teach 8th Grade religious education classes in preparation for Confirmation. I bought this book and was so glad I did. It is what teenagers are curious about, facts they should know about their Religion, and the questions and answers are easily explained and understandable. It will enpower everyone with Faith and Knowledge. It is a great book for all Catholics ,not only teenagers. I highly recommend it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great resource for Catholic teen ministry
Interesting, very informative and full of relevant questions and answers. I've given it on loan to 3 friends now and all found it fascinating. Most Cathlics don't know how much sence our faith makes and how beautiful it is. This is a great tool to help fill in the gaps many teens find in their understanding of our Faith,

5.0 out of 5 stars Matthew Pinto gives excellent answers that are thoughtful
Matthew Pinto gives excellent answers that are thoughtful, yet faithful to the Magisterium of the Church. In a world that is more and more hostile to the truth, answers like these to common questions posed is vital to our young Catholics.
