Purchase options and add-ons
With a focus on the leader’s role in initiating and sustaining anti-bias education in programs for young children and their families, this book is both a stand-alone text and a perfect companion for Anti-Bias Education for Young Children and Ourselves. It emphasizes that this work is not only about changing curriculum, but requires thoughtful, strategic, long-term planning that addresses all components of an early childhood program. - Reviewed in the United States on January 1, 2015This is the book I wish I had when first becoming a preschool program director. The examples are timeless and the discussion builds on the foundation set forth by Derman-Sparks, Anti-Bias Curriculum. Although there are three authors, it is written in one voice by three brave, experienced leaders in the field. The chapter on Managing and Negotiating Disequilibrium and Conflict reminds early childhood leaders that antibias work is supposed to generate uncomfortable and conflicting feelings, as well as what to do about that. What a welcome tool for leaders and practitioners in the field!
- Reviewed in the United States on July 12, 2021I have read several of books on this topic and Love this one!
- Reviewed in the United States on January 4, 2015This is the only guide of this kind that I know of. Louise Derman-Sparks has been at the forefront of the anti-bias education movement for over 20 years. This book details how we can lead and mentor others in this important work. It is well written and the co-authors are also brilliant voices in the ECE field.
