- Reviewed in the United States on July 3, 2019Old school, figure drawing instruction. Very Good! Just enough information to get you going, while leaving it up to you to utilize your skills and imagination. Very good exercises and illustrations. Guides you along nicely without drowning you with text. Gets to the point! You learn the basics in a short time.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 21, 2008I found this book to give me all I was looking for, how to draw gesture drawing, anatomical proportions, figure, and it gives you practice pages to draw on and then comparison pages to go back to so you can see your errors and correct them. this is a self teaching book that works
- Reviewed in the United States on September 4, 2015Just started taking art lessons and came across this book at the time we were doing human figures and this book was very much like the one the teacher was using, so I bought it. It is very clear in both explanation and drawings making it easy for those who have never drawn before.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 29, 2016Some old books are so well done. this is one of them.
The essentials. Just enough words to explain.
- Reviewed in the United States on June 24, 2016Yes a little worn but arrived on time, and was ideal quality.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 6, 2010I have always been interested in the human figure. Getting the proportions right while exhibiting action is difficult. This workbook is a excellent source to help accomplish this goal. Rikk
- Reviewed in the United States on August 17, 2008This is a good book for those beginning figure drawing.I found it less complicated than others out there and the method is sound. There are photos you can draw from if you want to do that and the explanations are very clear.Keep it simple and have fun.

5.0 out of 5 stars Old but great
This book is ancient, dating from 1983—though it appears that I received a new copy of it, somehow, not a reprint! In any case, I think this has to be an absolute cornerstone of realistic life drawing: it's articulate, thorough, very well illustrated, and goes deeply into various life drawing approaches that are often just summarized in other books. The idea of including tracing sheets for student exercises is a good one. You can imagine generations of realistic artists having used this for guidance, whether they were enrolled in the (now defunct?) Famous Artists school or not. I don't think this is still in print, but if you can get a copy of it, it's really fundamental.

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent
