- Reviewed in the United States on July 25, 2014Most people when speaking about spirituality in the modern age think in terms of something that is very wishy-washy. I've heard that phrase, "I'm spiritual but not religious" many times in the course of ministry. This book is not for those people. Aumann clearly lays out the concrete principles of spiritual theology for a serious thinker.
This textbook on spiritual theology is the standard for the subject matter. Aumann uses thomistic and carmelite principles in approaching the topic of spiritual theology. This book is not a "how-to," rather it is a treatise on the spiritual life. It is meant for the graduate level study of this topic. Aumann shows his masterful scholarship in this field. His footnotes provide excellent resources for much reading in the future. If you've never read an academic theology book before this one is worth making your way through. It might take time but it is worth it. The last chapter on "The Discernment of Spirits" is critically important.

The best thing about this seller is the care and effort in packaging for shipment! Would definitely buy from this seller again.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 31, 2011This is without a doubt the best resouce on spritual theology that I have read. In addition to thouroghly covering the topic, what I enjoyed most about this resouce is the methodical and complete way Fr. Auumen covers the critical subject of Nature and Grace. I rarely write reviews, but this book demands a "thumbs up" for anyone who either has a passing interest in the subject of grace or the serious theologian.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 4, 2015I came here looking for the ISBN number so that I could put it in a syllabus for a course I'm teaching--however the "description" on the amazon page for this book is actually for a different book by different authors. I wasn't sure how to notify Amazon about this, but you have the wrong description on this page.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 14, 2020A spiritual classic drawing on the traditional mystical theology of such greats as John of the Cross, Theresa of Avila.

5.0 out of 5 stars This book contains answers to spiritual questions not readily given elsewhere.
Jordan Aumann must have been a spectacular lecturer. The fact that his name is attached to book indicates its great value in the wonderful insights he always imparts.
