This ENTIRE BOOK is UPSIDE DOWN AND BACKWARDS. I have no freaking idea how that possibly could have happened but this was a waste. Don’t bother. Ridiculous that a company could even let this happen.

My husband had seen a co-worker with this cookbook and he thought it had some tasty sounding recipes in it. He is also a Type II diabetic. We ordered it and have not been disappointed with any of the recipes we've tried. Really great stuff from snacks, main dishes, crockpot meals, meals for 2, meals for kids, desserts. Just great! We love the Cincinnati-Style Chili, Cowboy Beef, roast beef sandwiches w/horseradish coleslaw, tiramisu dessert (can't recall the exact name of it). I highly recommend this cookbook whether you're a diabetic or just looking for healthy recipes. All the nutritional information is listed for each recipe. I've shared several recipes with family and friends.

This book has a diet plan in the front of the book. It unfortunately has recipes that serve 12 or 8 or 6 which is not good for 2 retirees. We are having the same lunch every day, rather than those the menu recommends, because I could only get a 1 1/2 of turkey, and 10 tortillas, and I am not going to waste those things to make different lunches each day. Just 4 days of groceries for the menu cost $160, so I have to use meals more than once. Still, everything I have made has been very tasty. We have a delicious nighttime snack, 1/2 cup from the 6 cups the recipe made, and are staying largely within a 1500 calorie meal plan.

Having been recently diagnosed as a type 2 diabetic, I went looking for a good cookbook to aid in improving my diet. I was somewhat surprised to learn that there is much more variety than I anticipated. Many excellent recipes for each mealtime, as well as snacks and desserts. Much useful information, including the carbohydrate values for each recipe. I like the "ring" style binding that allows the book to lay flat. However, you must be careful turning the pages, as this particular binding tends to "bind" the pages. All in all a good value. I am happy with the purchase.

Well, I ordered several Diabetic recipe books recently. This one is produced by better homes and gardens. It features a really good variety of recipes. The Preparation and cooking times listed are accurate. The Carb and calorie counts are accurate as well. My copy came spiral bound so that it opens flat to make it an easy reference while cooking. I have tried several of the recipes and found every one to be delicious. If I could offer any suggestions on how to improve the book the only one for me would be to add the glycemic load for each of the dishes.

If you only buy 1 Diabetic recipe book, this is the one.

Product did arrive on time and was exactly as advertised.

The content of the book, however, wasn't quite what I was looking for. The recipe's for meats are good and are all low in carbs. The meats also make good use of various peppers and fruits (juices/peels) for flavoring. I do, however, have 2 major concerns as a Type II diabetic:

1.Many, many side dishes seem way too high in carbs. The vast majority of the side dishes I would not eat as part of a daily regimen. For this reason I, personally, don't really consider this a "Diabetic" cookbook. If your looking for real help planning complete meals this may not be your solution.

2.Unless I'm missing it, the sugar values are not included in the recipes. At the end of each recipe it lists carbs, fats, sat fats, etc. But not sugars. For me, this is a killer.

The book isn't terrible or just completely useless, but it certainly wasn't what I was expecting, either.

Whether you are a diabetic, know a diabetic, have diabetic leanings, or not - I have received good raves on this book given as a gift. I bought this as a present for someone who is not diabetic but it was recommended they follow the diet for another issue. They really liked some of the recipes and are sharing them. Now I have to buy another one for the household. Yes the book was well received, loved - shared and now I am a repeat purchaser of this product for another.

Excellent book! I got this to help give me more Ideas and choices for meals. Have been a type 2 diabetic since diagnosed in November. There are many good choices here. I chose to go this route and to become a good label reader rather then spend the amount of money the Nutritionist were charging to do the same thing with me. You can do it yourself! It also, helps keep your mind engaged and positive about helping yourself. Very helpful book!

My husband is just borderline type 2 diabetic. This book is going to help me make sure he never makes it to full blown type 2 diabetes. The recipes look great and easy. I am retiring in a few months and will really start using this recipe book a lot then. We both looked through it, though, and it looks like it is right up our alley.

There are a number of things about this book that are appealing.

First off it's big. Boasting over 350 recipes, this is easily the biggest diabetic recipe book that I've come across. The recipes are plainly laid out, with total carbohydrate content per serving clearly marked to help with a balanced meal. They're also divided into sensible topic areas, breakfast, pork & beef, poultry & game, fish & seafood, vegetarian, dessert, kids favourites - which helps in narrowing down the selection you're looking at.

Secondly, the recipes are almost always printed on a single page, so there's no need to turn pages with hands covered in ingredients while at the crucial point of preparation. The paper itself is fairly cheap, matt-finished which I expect will soak up spills and stains fairly happily rather than the semi-gloss finish of a lot of other books which wipes clean easily.

Thirdly it's plastic comb binding allows it to be laid flat on the work surface without it wanting to snap closed as soon as you walk away from it. So there's no need to balance jam-jars, pots of ingredients, knives or other kitchen implements on it to keep it open at the right page. And it's small enough that it won't take up too much valuable work-surface, particularly handy in a small kitchen like mine.

The paper, format and binding combine to give it almost a notebook/filofax feel, which I'm quite pleased with. With plenty of white space on the pages there's enough space, with neat handwriting, to add your own notes to things you've made before - keeping a record of improvements.

    But it's not all good...

I like to have photos of what I'm making - it helps me choose what to make in the first place and I can see if I'm still on the right track when making it. While there are colour photos, they appear in "clumps" with references back to the page of teach relevant recipe rather than alongside the dish you're trying to prepare. While this undoubtedly helps with the layout of the book, it makes it a little less appealing and slightly harder to choose a recipe.

It's also very obviously an American recipe book. This is no bad thing in itself, but it does mean that some decoding of ingredients (zucchini=courgette etc) and conversion of measures (cups vs weight) is required.

While there are a lot of recipes, once you read through them you begin to realise that quite a few of them are very similar with only minor variations between - something that other books have done by providing a "variations" side-note to the main recipe but here it's counted as a fully-fledged recipe.

So desipte some of the quirks, I'm reasonably pleased with the purchase. It's provided a good number of recipes to help keep things varied, sensibly divided, neatly layed out and in a practical package. My niggles are with the lack of pictures and the lack of simple weights & measures, but these are easy enough to overcome.
