How to Survive (and Thrive!) as a Mom in Baby's First Year
Babies don't need perfect moms, they need happy ones!
New moms have these thoughts daily:
What should I do with my hair?
I only have maternity and work clothes now… I need something new, but what do I like anymore?
Can I still relate to my old friends or do I need to meet new friends?
Who am I and What do I want out of life (besides a cup of coffee)?
And most importantly, how can I make time to do what I love now that I have a little person to care for?
Finally, here are the answers to becoming the happy mom you deserve to be!
Sara Gaviria is just a mom, but a happy mom. She interviewed top dermatologists, nutritionists, fitness trainers, makeup artists and new moms to create this relatable guide to thriving as a new mom.
Be warned though, this book isn’t a guide on how to care for baby. You’ve read all those books! Instead, it will give you insider tips on how to care for you. Give your child the gift of a mom who is well-rested, sane, happy, and ready to do the job!
In this helpful and hilarious guide, you’ll encounter insightful stories, incisive research, and charming personal anecdotes. You’ll learn:
What no one (seriously, no one) tells you about your body after delivery
How to cope with breastfeeding obstacles and overcome challenges
How to approach eating and exercise (without saying goodbye to chocolate!)
Why you should take your grandmother’s old beauty trick seriously
How to act in partnership with your husband
How to remain mindful through the madness of the first year
Why “lean in” may be the exact wrong advice for you
Why “finding your passion” is more than a buzz phrase, and how to go about it
And much more...
Being a mom is more than learning the right breastfeeding tips, dealing with postpartum depression and losing weight after pregnancy. It’s more than skincare and tribes and healthy sleep habits. It’s all those things too, of course – but with a huge dash of realism, tranquility and wit all mixed in. Sound like the recipe for your first year? You’re in luck.
Buy this book NOW to become the happier, healthier, snazzier stay-at-home mom you’ve always known you could be.

"Although I have a 8-year-old, I still find this book very helpful. Sara's experiences, tips and suggestions will help you survive not only the first year of being a mom but the following ones. You can take this guide next time you go shopping and do a smart and conscious decisions."
--Melisa Gomez (Amazon Verified Reviewer)
"It is a breath of fresh air to finally find a book that talks about the challenges a modern mom faces on a daily basis. Plus all the juicy tips we all need to keep up with the status quo when you have no energy or desire after having a baby!"
--Sandra Uribe (Amazon Verified Reviewer)
"Sara boldly shares her personal experiences as a first time mom, but not in ways you'd expect. Every book on the shelf is how to care for your babies during the first year, but nobody seems to be concerned about how to, as mom's, care for ourselves during the first year: SARA DOES! And it's so refreshing! I could tell that this book is written from Sara's heart to help mom's of all walks (no Mommy wars here) be healthier, more present and enjoy what really matters as a new mother."
--Witchy Mimi (Amazon Reviewer)
"The one part that really hit home for me was Sara's mention of letting go of control. As a someone who likes order, learning to let go and just be was hard in those early days of parenting. Overall this book reminds me of the advice that seasoned Moms would give first time Moms."

- Reviewed in the United States on October 19, 2018Like many other new moms, I find myself reading so many different books about motherhood, baby books, etc-- I've read them all! But I have to say that I really enjoyed this book by Sara Gaviria! It's written in a way where it feels like your best friend is giving you advice and sharing her personal insight about everything from diet to exercise to beauty tips, even yoga poses-- how cool is that!
And I love that the book is in Kindle format so I'm able to read it from my Kindle, my iPhone or even from my web browser at work (LOL!). I really enjoyed this book and highly recommend it to new moms and also soon-to-be-moms! A great resource and a fun read :)

- Reviewed in the United States on October 11, 2018I find this book to be one of the best books in its category! This is the only book I have found that has a mommy's point of view with a point of view of what to expect and take care of YOU. I appreciate the author's honesty and wide range of advice from nutrition, beauty and childbirth, to even happiness and perspective in life. In many cases I find the advice to be applicable not only to mothers but to women in general. Definitely a must buy for all women, not only those that are pregnant or just gave birth, but to those that are looking to go though it at some point in their lives. The book is very easy to read. Definitely a must buy!

Thank you Sara for sharing all the little secerets that make you beautiful, smart great mom and wife. Looking forward to your next book, in the meantime I recommend you all sign up to her blog!

- Reviewed in the United States on December 20, 2022This book is for the skinny, not-looking-perfect = some shadows under the eyes. Baked kale chips and lemon water? Please.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 19, 2019The author is a decent writer, but that's about as far as i'll go. This is maybe a book that someone might write for her friends to read, but is absolutely not useful in any shape or form.
Here is a synopsis of the first 100 or so pages i read before giving up:
- don't forget to exercise, but take it easy for the first few months
- eat sensibly, but allow yourself a small treat now and then
- here's some recipes i like
- here's a bunch of folk medicine from my mom's village in Colombia
I've found most of those recipes (or extremely similar ones) on Pinterest, so this book has been a complete waste of money.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 9, 2018The Happy Stay-at-Home Mom: How to Look and Feel Amazing after Having Your Baby by Sara Gaviria is a good guide for new moms. Having a new baby can be overwhelming in every way. The author of this book understands this and wrote this book for new moms to help them tackle all the challenges that come along with having a new baby. Ms Gaviria tackles health issues, sleep issues, natural remedies, etc. Information is given about many, many different topics of interest to new moms. I think this book may interest some new moms who are completely overwhelmed and have no idea where to start. I received a digital copy of this book from the author with no obligations. These opinions are entirely my own.

The perfect gift for a baby shower!

5.0 out of 5 stars So much information for a new mum!
I love this book! It has so much information for a new mum. Sara writes of her experiences particularly during that first year, in a refreshingly honest and often humorous way with lots of advice and help on all aspects of caring for your baby. But this book is not only about caring for your baby as so many books do. Sara explains how important it is to take care of yourself too with lots of tips, advice and anecdotes on surviving and enjoying that first year with baby. She gives lots of guidance and information on giving birth, on all aspects of caring for your baby which is invaluable when you come home as it can be a bit daunting when you’re all alone with a tiny baby, your husband's at work and your mum isn’t available. The responsibility can feel overwhelming!
A wonderfully helpful and well written book!

5.0 out of 5 stars A casual and easy read. Mothers, pick this up if you don't wish for a heavy read with jargons
I'm so glad I came across this book. I really liked that Sara focused on the traditions. My fav tips were cinnamon water and cocoa powder. Helped me tremendously to heal and soothe my mood. It's going to be a year and one statement from her book remains with me, reminding me of my love for my husband -The greatest gift you can give your baby is a happy and strong relationship between the two of you. A casual read. And you feel good about yourself and the fact that you picked up this book, while reading the book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Look after yourself, it’s not all about your baby...
I received a sample of the book but quickly I got immerse with Sara’s story so I have to buy a copy. The author tells his experience as a first time mum and is very interesting to see how she mixed the knowledge that she got from the hundred books she read and the stories from her mother and his Latin roots. I think this book is a excellent guide for new mums, with practical wisdom that will comfort even the most sleep-deprived young mother. The author manages to articulate the wonder, the bewilderment, the fatigue, and the pure pleasure that come with the first year of motherhood and shows how to care for yourself and your baby. It’s a nice reading, you can laugh I one chapter and cry in the next one. I think anyone that buy this book, will love it as much as I do.

5.0 out of 5 stars A must for ‘those days’
Where was this book when I was sitting at home with my babies, feeling like ‘what’s happened to me’ and ‘what do I do now’?
I love the little tips and concoctions and the way the author ties in history and cultural traditions is really interesting and so organic. It’s like a little book of ‘pick me ups’ at each stage of babyhood.
I’m going to stick the ‘happiness challenge’ on my fridge as a reminder to care for myself more.
Written by a Mum, for Mums....so refreshing. Thank you x
