Dumb
This is the biggest waste of money and time I’ve ever endured. So, so stupid. It feels like I’m reading about someone’s psychotic episodes. The entirety of the book can be summed up in one sentence: “use your non-dominant hand to write or draw little notes to and from your imaginary child inside you.” It’s not even written in a cohesive way. I’m so happy for all of the people that got the help they needed from this, but if you’re like me, this won’t do it for you. I could also do without all the religious jargon. It should really be made clear on the back cover of the book if it’s going to include religion. Some of us don’t want to read that nonsense and all it does is discredit the author in my eyes.

I have been trying to find good books on Inner Child and they've been too technical or just hard to relate to, until I found this book. I borrowed it from the library, and once I was 75% thru the book in a day and a half, I ordered it from Amazon to keep and do the exercises at home. This is a great resource if you already have some familiarity with Inner Child work.

This book is insightful for everyone. I agree it is way more beneficial for people with mental health problems or people who are having trouble with self love but I still enjoy this book and doing the activities. My husband and I have been doing the activities together and it's been great bonding time for us, as well as learning new things about each other.

Great self reflection book, fun exercises to heal your inner child or at least understand your inner childhood wounds. I would definitely recommend this book to all who have childhood wounds to dig deep and see what your inner child says to you through these invaluable exercises. This book moved me my inner soul, my inner spirit. Easy reading and I enjoyed the exercises using your non dominant hand and the use of healing through art therapy - invaluable

I was abandoned as an infant, endured child abuse, was raped repetitively at age 12 for over a year, developed PTSD, went through many unhealthy relationships after that, got married to an abusive man, and am just now getting a divorce. This book is incredible. Anyone who has experienced trauma or even just heartbreak should read this. Doing the activities in this book has been more beneficial to me than any CBT or DBT therapy i've ever done.

I brought this book so I can actually expand my imagination and creativity. But I made a mistake this book is for people who have mental issues, and therapist even recommended this. as I was doing the drawing technique it made me uncomfortable and confused. But then I realized this book wasn’t for me. Nice book, Good grammar, Creative art.

While there were a number of books that have been written regarding the Inner Child concept, Cappachione’s book was not about teaching the theory solely but focused more as a self-teaching guide and activity book on the subject. A big part of the book was about the recommended activities and the examples from the author’s experience in the inner child work.

The interactive aspect of the book makes it challenging as well as exciting. There are set of activities, like a craft workshop, where specific art materials are needed such as coloring pens, paper, etc.

The interesting part of the activities is that the writer asks you to write with your non-dominant hand (if you are right handed, it is your left and vice versa) when writing down a dialogue with the inner child speaking and using your dominant hand when the parent part of the dialogue is speaking.

I have experienced transformation from my past struggles on my self-identity and this book has immensely helped in how I coped and how I live in the present. I have bought at least three copies of this book and read it the same number of times. A self help toolkit in a book, i find the exercises easy to follow . Delving deeper into and rediscovering my inner child is not only interesting, what i have noticed is kids also get drawn to me each time i do a 'heavier' dose of that work, i.e. work on the exercises for a week! I still do not understand why, but it does not stop me from enjoying their presence and attention! I am now following Lucia Capacchione!

I bought this book since it sounded promising for helping me connect with my abused inner child. I gave it to my therapist to see if she thought it would help. She said it was worth a try so I did the work in her office on one of my visits. I was amazed at the depth of emotion it brought up for me. I was sobbing and conversing with my inner child and I was drained with the emotion by the end. I would truly recommend this as a therapeutic tool, but would caution you to do the work with a trained therapist because the feelings can be overwhelming, especially if you suffered from some major abuse.

Reviewed in the United Kingdom on December 20, 2014
This book was recommended to me by my tutor on my counselling course. For many years I have felt alone and my inner child wounded and never having left me. When I experienced more difficult experiences in my life, my inner child felt hurt even more and neglected. I knew that it was time to listen to that child and face the painful things because it would hold the key to unlock my healing and allow me to find peace as well as become stronger and more insightful and confident to make sense of myself and the world. Lucia Capacchione the author allows your inner child to be heard, come out and be creative and allow you to heal and find answers you may not even know you wanted to ask or knew. It allows you to meet your inner child, embrace your vulnerable child, accept your angry inner child, be your own nurturing and protecting parent towards your inner child, deal with the critical parent within and come face to face with the wounds of childhood. It gives the inner child a right to be heard, come out to play, celebrate it's creativity and discover it's spiritual self. She states it's the part of us that feels emotions, is playful, creative and intuitive. Healing our inner child holds the key to intimacy in relationships, physical and emotional well being , wisdom and even can help those recovering from addictions. She also claims that illness can be a result from wounds of our inner child and so recognising it is significant to recovery. The exercises require you to write and draw, just like child therapy works wonders through expressing emotions by a child's innate ability to draw. Most of the writing requires you to do so with your non-dominant hand to bring out that childlike quality of learning how to write and childish writing as well as tap into your subconscious mind. This book will lead to many self discoveries and heal a much valued part of ourselves that is precious and lives life with wonder and authentically when healed. It unlocks our authentic selves and who we truly were and authentically are without the social conditioning or the hurts placed upon us. It's helpful whether your childhood was positive or not in capturing your inner child and making it an integral part of your being and living. One of the best books in regards to understanding and healing your inner child.

One of my favourite books of all the time. The wisdom and exercises are brillian, it helped me in my most difficult time of my life when I was close to death. It inspired to continue this journey and find streigh and wisdom in my inner child. I still use the exercises quite often, it is a book which I will go for support over and over again. I love this author and her wisdom and gentle guidance.
