A masterful devotional compilation of Bonhoeffer

Overall I enjoyed the devotion, however, sometimes the reading was hard to understand. I would have enjoyed the readings if I understood more of the context. Maybe longer passages?

This book could be your key to being a good Christian.
It is keyed with all the info from where each entry comes from, thus facilitating further readings.
Bonhoeffer is a true martyr and a true believer (in the God connection of Jesus) and his beliefs hold true (for me, anyway), so it does help me in my faith.
Is the format a little simplistic? Maybe, but that is not such a bad thing, considering how complex the idea of Christianity/faith really is.
So, yes, I would highly recommend this book to any journeyman Christian.

The daily readings in this year-long devotional form a good introduction to the writings of Dietrich Bonhoeffer. The writings are classic and well-suited to the different seasons of the year, but the book would have been improved greatly by identifying the source of the material in each daily reading and by putting dates or day numbers on each entry.

I have read Bonhoeffer's 'Ethics' several times, and often found myself stopping to digest what I had read and sometimes feeling like it was over my head. Reading selections from his works, letters, and poetry in this daily devotional format has proved fruitful for my comprehension of his creative mind and deep faith, and thus deepened my own faith. Each day's selection is referenced in the back, so one can find its source and thus access the full work, making these selections great stepping stones into them and even deeper study.

This is an impressive collection of writings of Dietrich Bonhoeffer and assembled for daily meditation. He reaches across time, imparting his continued faith and hope that now can be shared by anyone who reads this book. His murder was one of the last vile orders of Hitler just before his own death. Bonhoeffer believed that he was to be freed from prison to resume his work in only a few weeks.

Dietrich Bonhoeffer is a prolific writer and I love this devotional journal. I've read several of his books and he truly understands the word of God and living a dedicated Christian life. He writes for mature Christians, so someone new to Christ may have a little trouble understanding his teaching.

These daily devotions culled from Bonhoeffer's writings are just what you need when you've exhausted those by others. The man was a prolific writer - something today's world has difficulty understanding - and when you learn more about the man himself, you are even better able to appreciate his deep devotion to his Lord and Savior. It makes you embarrassed to realize just how much you've been fussing and stressing over your little problems, when you see how this man did all he could to keep his daily walk in step with God even as his country and the world crashed around him, right up to his execution by the Nazis.

5.0 out of 5 stars It's been such a journey

This book has lead me to go on into a more deep and serious relationship with God. I have not yet finished it, but I'm planing to go on with it until December and re-read it again and again. Bonhoeffer is wordy in his way of thinking but it gets you into a deeper insght of the hidden treasures of scripture. I do recommend, and please go on until the end, do not stop at the begining. It is such a pleasure to be delighed in his readings. The Ebook itself is well organized and divided into chapters, but I just wish it had a day marker so I would know each day of the month I'm into it.
