- Reviewed in the United States on June 22, 2015Great book. It starts from very basic exercises on coordination and comping. Before each song a new concept is introduced (two-feel vs. four-feel, shuffle etc)
- Reviewed in the United States on June 30, 2013I read through this book and play along with the recordings once or twice each week. I will admit that there are pieces that are above my pay grade. My goal is not to mimic, but to learn and develop and I think this would be a great tool for intermediate and advanced players that want to improve there reading skills. True this may not be a work for novice musicians to be able to play through. As a learning tool this book cannot be beat. These are great transcriptions and it is well documented. Really advanced player may not need a book like this because the would probably transcribe it themselves.
- Reviewed in the United States on June 30, 2008Essential for the jazz-drummers ( and others too !!! ), this book is a "Bible" for all the drummers who like Philly Joe Jones, Max Roach, Roy Haynes, Paul Motian, Art Blakey, Tony Williams, Elvin Jones, Joe Morello and so on ... This book includes transcriptions of their playing on the "heads" of the tunes ( Billy Boy, Delilah, Fly me to the moon, Take five, Seven steps to heaven ... ), giving insight into these drummers mastery of song form and structure ; In addition, the book includes their drums-solos and drums-breaks fromm several jazz classics, with explanations of the tunes, fantastic !!! As I said before, indispensable and essential book ; Thanks again at Hal-Leonard Corporation and Amazon, Emilio ( France ).
- Reviewed in the United States on December 4, 2012Bass lines very well transcribed (note for note). Can be a very good pedagogic tool as the student can see what professional bassist actually play on the record.
I don't put 5 because of the level. I would not recommend it to a beginner.
- Reviewed in the United States on June 29, 2018Great collection of bass lines to study for style, interpretation and/or sight reading for the advanced! Book was bent prior to shipping, but still readable without much distraction.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 11, 2007An interesting mix of solos on here. Some are famous while others more obscure. I give it 4 stars because I don't think the Take 5 transcription is accurate enough (It's the only one I've transcribed on my own that's on here). I'm aware that recording capabilities weren't as good then as they are now, but if you look at the transcription there's a lot of bass drum notes in there that I can't hear on the original recording. Perhaps I'm wrong, but, I've painstakingly transcribed this solo and what I've transcribed is just what I hear. Whether that's a fault of the recording or not, I can't say. Overall, a pretty useful book to check your own transcriptions against. There's a brief history of each drummer before their transcription(s).
- Reviewed in the United States on March 17, 2007This is one of the better books that I have come across. Some of the transcriptions are not 100% accurate, but whereas most books offer excerpts of bass lines and/or solos, this book offers complete transcriptions from beginning to end of some great bass performances. Have fun playing along with the source recordings........

3.0 out of 5 stars 上級者向け
素晴らしい内容です。でも、レベルが高すぎで、弾く前に譜面を追うところから始めてます。テンポも早い(200越え)ものが多く、初心者には難しい。上級者向けです。

4.0 out of 5 stars ジャズ・ベース・プレーヤーの名演がここに
この本は有名なジャズ・ベース・プレーヤーの名演が収められている楽譜集である。選曲も良く、採譜したレコードを聞きながら見ると大変参考なると思う。
