Join a lovable group of rock friends (and one wise little ladybug), on a funny, heartwarming adventure about the importance in believing in yourself.

When Tess, a tin foil ball, rolls onto the hill and meets Marvin, Ricky and the rest of the rocks, she immediately worries that she’s too different from everyone else:

"Do you want to play?" asked Parker and Kai.
"No thanks," whispered Tess. "I'm just rolling on by.
I'm sure that you've noticed I don't really fit in -
I'm not even a rock, I'm just made of tin.
I'm not smooth and solid, and I'm not strong like you...
I'm a tin foil ball - there's not much I can do.”

But when the rocks go looking for a lost pebbles and get lost in the woods, it's up to Tess to save the day, as she realizes that everyone has value, and even a tin ball can be a rock star!

From the author of the best selling Ricky, the Rock that Couldn't Roll, The Masterpiece and The Bear and the Fern, comes this sweet and endearing story about friendship, teamwork and self-worth.

Combining the spirit of The Giving Tree with the rhyme and rhythm of Dr. Seuss, Tess, the Tin is ideal for both boys and girls, ages 3-8, and grades K-3. This latest story featuring the "You Rock Group" is a book that kids are sure to cherish as they grow, and ask to read over and over again!

Well, hello there! Thanks for visiting my author page.

I'm Mr. Jay, and I have the best career on the planet - I get to spend my days creating amazing characters and writing stories about them that, for reasons I can't possibly imagine, people seem to like. So far, I've written books like "Ricky, the Rock that Couldn't Roll," "Tess, the Tin that Wanted to Rock," "Do Pebbles Eat Chili?", "The Masterpiece," "The Bear and the Fern," and a few books that will be coming out soon, such as "Patrick Picklebottom and the Penny Book," "Tyrannosaurus Hex," and others.

But the best part is that in between all of my writing, I get to travel around the country visiting school and meeting the most amazingly awesome kids ever. I read my books and then we discuss what they're about, and I always love hearing how kids interpret the stories that I write and discussing it with them.

I live in New Jersey (yes, by choice), and I have a wife, Amanda, who helps me improve all of my books as I write them, and a daughter named Bria who is the inspiration for many of the stories that I come up with.

I also love hearing from teachers and parents and kids, so please feel free to contact me at jmiletsky@newpaigepress.com.

Without being preachy this book shares an important message about teamwork and individual worth. I first downloaded it when it was free on Kindle, and I loved it so much that I had to get the hardcover version too. It held the attention of all 5 of my kids--the story line, lyrical rhythm, and captivating pictures were perfect.

Two of my grandchildren, ages 4 and 3, love this book! I read it over FaceTime to my 4 year old grandson. Both children love to find Bria the ladybug on the pages. The art work, story line and rhyming are perfect! As is the lesson the book teaches that we all are important and have something to contribute. I can’t think of a thing that I don’t like about this book. For fun, I made a Tess for my 3 year old granddaughter to hold while we read. I would highly recommend this book!

Very cute book and sweet message! Kids constantly struggle with belonging and this book offers a beautiful message to drive that point. Also, the quality of this book is great - we genuinely love how the pages feel.

The only reason this isn’t a 5 star for us is that we tend to gravitate toward bright, vibrant colors and the color palette of this book is pretty muted. But that’s a preference thing - the book is still beautifully illustrated!

This book came in very handy for my grandson who could not figure out why they were painting faces on rocks and stones when they were on vacation. When the family got home, my birthday gift (this book) for his baby sister, was read to them both. His Mother tells me that everything clicked for him while reading the book... The magic of a good story!

My sons (ages 3 and 7) and me enjoyed this book very much; so much actually that I had to read it 3x before bedtime. This book has everything a great picture book needs: i) relatable, interesting, and diverse characters; ii) a gripping plot with a clever, little twist; and iii) a satisfying solution. On top of that, it's simply a pleasure to read aloud, as the verses rhyme well and the meter flows beautifully. Little speech bubbles add an additional layer of humour. Also, particularly my youngest enjoyed pointing out all the ladybugs that are hidden throughout the pages. Finally, I'd like to emphasise that the story can be used to discuss topics such as: friendship, diversity and inclusion, or self-acceptance. Erin Wozniak did a truly stunning job in illustrating this book and in bringing Jay Miletzky's storyteller voice to life. Overall, I'd highly recommend this book.
