About the Author

Steve Zumdahl is the author of market-leading textbooks in introductory chemistry, general chemistry, honors-level chemistry, and high school chemistry. Recently retired from his long-time position as Director of Undergraduate Programs at the University of Illinois, he has received numerous awards for his contributions to chemical education. These include the National Catalyst Award in recognition of his contribution to chemical education, the University of Illinois Teaching Award, the UIUC Liberal Arts and Sciences Advising Award, and the School of Chemical Sciences Teaching Award (five times). He earned his B.S. in Chemistry from Wheaton College (IL), and his Ph.D. from the University of Illinois.

Susan A. Zumdahl earned a B.S. and M.A. in Chemistry at California State University--Fullerton. She has taught science and mathematics at all levels, including middle school, high school, community college, and university. She is past director of the Merit Program for Emerging Scholars in Chemistry at the University of Illinois. In addition, she spearheaded the development of a sophisticated web-based electronic homework system for chemistry and is co-author on several chemistry textbooks.

    Chemistry can be a tough subject to get a good grasp on. What is important is finding a book that communicated the concepts effectively to its students - I've used a variety of Chemistry textbooks and this is the best at explaining problems and concepts. It really does "teach you to think like a chemist". I am sad I didn't have this book when I began studying the first half of chemistry - but I had it for the second half of my semester. I would highly recommend purchasing the solution manual. The answers to the Odd questions are in super tiny font and have no explanation. Its more like a list of answers - the accompanying solution manual has detailed explanation of steps/concepts etc. One of the best text companion solution manuals I've ever had the pleasure of using.

    This solution manual rocks. After completing chapter 3 from the text book I knew I was not going to pass the course without some help. It was too much time consuming doing the practice exercises myself. This guy was the only one that could help me. And I wasn't wrong! I am now on chapter 7 and even though the chapters are harder I actually finish my assignments and tests because of this book. Highly recommended for those who are taking a chemistry class with the Zumdahl & Zumdahl's Chemistry textbook =-)
