- Reviewed in the United States on September 14, 2020My young black son read this book and loved it! He said he felt like he could relate to this character and that doesn't happen for him often.. I was so glad that I got this book for him!
- Reviewed in the United States on August 20, 2020My son really enjoyed the book. It was a conversation starter which I was really happy about.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 30, 2017Kinda Like Brothers by Coe Booth was a very invigorating book about two kids Jarrett Crawford and Kevon Underwood having to get use to doing everything together. This was hard for Jarrett because when his mom took in a new foster baby he had to deal with Kevon as well. This book makes me feel like I’m grateful to be in a situation where I don’t have to worry about spying on a foster kid to know about his past.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 18, 2023I was able to put this book down and walk away a couple of times, it didn’t capture me in a way that I could not put down.
I did like that I could relate to the feelings Jarrett had throughout the book, especially his nervousness with Caprice and acceptance of Ennis
However I feel like the end of the book left a lot of things unresolved. Several things were implied, but never told outright and as a children’s book I think this could be difficult for kids to pick up on.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 10, 2015Very good story. A viewpoint about foster care from the kids' point of view.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 8, 2014My son enjoyed the read and looking forward to her next.
