Hoot and Peep Hardcover – Picture Book, March 1, 2016
Purchase options and add-ons
Hoot the owl is very excited for his little sister, Peep, to join him on the cathedral rooftops. She's finally old enough to learn all his big brother owly wisdom: First, owls say hooo. Second, they always say hooo. Lastly, they ONLY say hooo! But why would Peep say hooo when she could say schweeepty peep or dingity dong? Why would she speak when she could sing? As she explores the breathtaking Parisian cityscape, Peep discovers so many inspiring sights and sounds—the ring of cathedral bells, the slap of waves on stone—that she can’t help but be swept up in the magic of it all. Hoot doesn’t understand Peep’s awe, until he takes a pause to listen . . . and realizes that you're never too old to learn a little something new.
From the beloved author/illustrator of the classic picture book Red Sled, this gorgeous read aloud celebrates the wonder found in little things—and in the hearts of dreamers, young and old.

- Reviewed in the United States on January 23, 2025My toddler fell in love with this book at 17/18 months, still wants to read it every single night! One little issue- one night, some ants attacked the glue in the book binding. Swarmed it. So I had to heartbreakingly throw away his very beloved owl book and order a new one (worth it because he loves it so much months later!). Not sure what happened?? All of the other picture books, stored together, are fine. I’ve never seen this happen!
- Reviewed in the United States on July 17, 2019illustrations are so important, this is the first reason i chose the book for my 2 year old grandson. he loves owls, so the book caught my attention for that reason, but the illustrations i saw on line made me decide to purchase it instead of another owl book. what i hadn't expected was the text. wow! what a great story line and i really appreciate that the story line is simple and yet packs a powerful message. AND the story is so fun to read with all the sounds the owls make. i know this book is going to be a big hit with my grandson!
- Reviewed in the United States on February 25, 2021My 5yo daughter loves owls and loves both books by Lita Judge about Hoot & Peeps. She is learning to read and enjoys trying to read the story on her own. The illustrations are beautiful. I highly recommend.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 31, 2016I purchase so many books, that I rarely review them, because it would take up too much time. However, the reaction my preschool students had to this one just begged for a review. It is a simple story, with a sibling theme that resonated to many of the children. In a multi-age classroom, it appealed to those without siblings as well. The children loved the sounds of Peeps "words," accompanied with the voice I chose for her and requested to hear the story over and over, until they could recite it from memory. They had only two bits of constructive criticism, which they put in the form of questions. 1. Why does Hoot say "Hoo" and not "Hoot?" and 2. Why does Hoot learn to sing Peeps words, but Peep never learns to say his word?
- Reviewed in the United States on May 21, 2016I saw this book while at a local library with my 3 year old granddaughter and was captivated by the enticing cover! The illustrations are adorable and the plot is heart warming and educational, particularly since my granddaughter has an older sibling. The three of us have reread this book several times already. We have made owl paper bag puppets and put on plays, recreating the story. We all love this book!

5.0 out of 5 stars Sweet story and wonderful pictures
Sweet story and wonderful pictures. I'm giving it to my daughter for Christmas. She has a new little sister so I thought the story about siblings was appropriate.
