Jeb Stuart was a gentleman for his times, when individuals engaging in military matters could still exhude a sense of honor and chivalry. He was a fine cavalry leader, and Gen. Lee came to depend on him for intelligence. I think his greatest moment came when he rode completely around Gen. Mclellan's army in the Peninsula battles. But he failed Gen. Lee at Gettysburg, by not being where he should have been. He was definitely a showoff of sorts, and it came back to bite him at Gettysburg. This book gives the reader a good overview of Jeb Stuart's public life, and a bit of his private life as well. I certainly recommend it, as a fine addition to anyone's civil war library. JRV

JEB Stuart played an important part in Lee's succeses in the Civil War until his death at the battle of Yellow Tavern in 1864. Historians may argue about his tactics at the battle of Gettysburg and his contributing to the Confederate defeat. Overall, I believe Stuart along with General Jackson were superb tacticians that helped the Confederacy gain the upper hand from 1861-1863. The book is a very well researched biography. The author's style makes the book easy to read. There are good maps that aid the reader as well .

Fascinating look at this inspirational and egocentric cavalry leader, this is a warts-and-all account of the genius and the failings of this hero of the Confederacy, a really good book and a very easy read... but a few more maps would have aided the understanding.

Great biography of one of the war's most adventuresome leaders. Stuart's performance at Chancelorsville, where he assumed command from the fallen Stonewall Jackson and successfully lead half of Lee;s infantry in one of the war's greatest battles is of particular interest.

Burke Davis is a grand story teller that brings history to life
