From the Publisher

Kids that love to get creative will enjoy Dover's children's coloring books--and parents will appreciate the low prices! Plus, most of our kids' coloring books have an educational aspect, so boys and girls can have fun while they learn.
Children and their parents will benefit from this excellent resource and its easy-to-color illustrations. Simple captions explain how to feed, groom, and train canine companions.
- Suitable for ages 4–8.
All about your puppy!
A new companion will need to visit the veterinarian (pet doctor) for vaccinations and a check-up. The veterinarian will tell you everything you need to know about keeping your pet healthy.
To keep your dog's coat shiny and healthy, her will need regular brushing. Ask your veterinarian which is the best type brush to use for your dog. Use gentle strokes and give him a few treats after you are done.
Always be safe when meeting new dogs. Don't assume all dogs are friendly. First ask the owner if you can pet their dog. If the owner says yes, let the dog sniff the back of your hand, then pet him under the chin.

- Reviewed in the United States on April 27, 2024We got this before we adopted our puppy and our son really enjoyed it. We made copies of the puppy care chart in the book and had fun checking things off as my son helped care for the new dog.

- Reviewed in the United States on September 12, 2016Read the captions to my four year old grandson. I wish it would of had a section on how sharp puppies teeth are and not to pull hard. Otherwise he enjoyed the book.
- Reviewed in the United States on June 16, 2020Super cute, just enough information for 5 year old.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 2, 2020This was the perfect activity booklet for our elementary school pet care program.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 6, 2018This little book is a must buy for kids getting puppies! Even I will be using some if the tips to train our new puppy! Very simple and so cute!
- Reviewed in the United States on August 19, 2019Cute pictures. A little too lengthy for smaller children and too specific. Not all of the situations apply to everyone. I thought it would be more basic and broad; how to take care, how to play, etc. My 4 year old daughter was over it about a page in. The words are far too descriptive for this age. I was really hoping to use this as a tool to prepare her for a new puppy.
It randomly goes into dog safety when out in public, which was interesting, but didn’t really fit the title or need in the book I felt. Also, felt like that would make my daughter afraid of dogs. I mean I’m all about realistic teaching, but the book is “how to care for YOUR DOG.”
Talks about puppy proofing the home, moving unsafe plants, etc., which was not stuff that I feel like would be the role of my child to do. It is sometimes more geared towards the adult.
Maybe 6 and up or even 8 and up. Any younger, I think it’s more just for the coloring aspect.
