About the Author

Stan and Jan Berenstain introduced the first Berenstain Bears books in 1962. Mike Berenstain grew up watching his parents work together to write about and draw these lovable bears. I grew up reading and loving "The Berenstain Bears!" Brother and Sister bear did everything and learned so much, and Mama and Papa Bear taught them right from wrong, and helped us as Children to do the same. So when the chance to review "God Bless Our Country" for 'BookLook Bloggers' came to me, (Harper Collins Christian Publishing), I jumped at the chance! The book includes a sheet of stickers, which is pretty cool. The book is about the Fourth of July, our Soldiers, our great Country and how God blesses our Country, and how blessed we are also. The book, written by Mike Berenstain, (which the books are usually written by Stan and Jan.) is beautifully detailed and explains everything just as clearly, so that every Child will understand. I truly enjoyed this book, it is everything I knew it would be and more. A beautiful five star review, perfect to share with the whole family. I loved how it touches base with America, the Statue of Liberty, our Flag, the Country, and made it work together so perfectly. Not many Children's books have portrayed and put it together as perfectly as this! Everyone will enjoy it, time and time again. This will be a book you will be honored to have in your collection, and to hand down to your next generation of grandchildren too. Make sure to check out this book, you will glad you did. Everyone loves the Berenstain Bears!

Our kids ask to read this book nearly every night. Such a fun way to teach them the importance of God and Country.

I thought this book would be a fun way to introduce my 3-year old to our nation's history. It's very cute, and who doesn't love the Berenstain Bears? The book is centered around the theme of the bears preparing for and participating in a 4th of July parade. It's a cute story for sure but I wish they'd focused a bit more on accuracy in a couple of instances:

    1) The book uses a Biblical reference to call America the Land of Milk and Honey. As a Christian this is frustrating because it uses the verse out of context as the BIble does not identify America. That said it's a point that went over my child's head (and probably always will) and should it need to be addressed, we are capable of disucssing what the Bible reference is really about.

    2) They've taken some artistic liberty with details such as referring to the Liberty Bell as the Libearty Bell. They also used the song title "The Stars and Bears Forver" rather than the Stars and Stripes Forever. While neither of these are dealbreakers and are certainly thematic, fun alterations, as a teacher it frustrates me a bit to change things like this as the story loses nothing by keeping the true titles - in fact, the book gains educational value by doing so.

Neither of these are huge issues (which is why I only knocked 1-star off my rating) but had the publishers not misused these references, the book would have been fantastic.

All that to say, I'm glad we've added this to our library as it gives our little on a base to begin getting excited about citizenship and learning about our Nation.
