- Reviewed in the United States on August 12, 2020I find reviewing books to be a dangerous game since it mainly depends on the likes and dislikes of individuals. However I have been using these DK guides for many years and have about 30 different ones on my shelves. There is good coverage of the history of the area,, good information, often with a photograph, of individual places along with access information. There are well laid out maps enabling one to find one’s way with cross references to the places described in the text. While I use the internet to find hotels and restaurants since guide books get quickly out of date in this regard, it does have useful general information for the tourist’s needs visiting the area. I have never had a bad DK guide.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 9, 2020I travel frequently and DK Eyewitness is my all time favorite guide. Up to date, pics, organization- truly helpful when you are trying to decide how much time to spend and where.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 14, 2021A great guide if you want to visit France. Great text organization and travel advice.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 18, 2020Eady to use excellent reference when visiting France!
- Reviewed in the United States on October 7, 2019I prefer these new DK guides with their non-glossy paper. I love the visual style, too. No idea why some reviews are so down on it; they give me a good overview of wherever I’m looking to travel.
I always felt the old style was more like a souvenir; this is more like a taste of what your destination looks and feels like.
If you’re looking for substantially more detail, there are many other guides out there, but this one has its place!
- Reviewed in the United States on October 28, 2019I’ve purchased so many DK Eyewitness travel books and every time when getting ready for the new trip I always pick them over other books. And it’s not that the other books/companies are bad, it’s just I like the way DK provides information, logical order, great pictures, tips, and overall description. In my opinion, this is the best book out there.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 25, 2019I have used DK guides for yrs and for many many trips because the gorgeous photos and lovely clear printing present an inviting introduction to the places they describe. To my dismay, this new guide is printed on very inferior paper and uses very inferior printing techniques -- so poor as to be almost unusable. DK has gone from the most beautiful travel guides available to ugly and useless. Why would they make such an awful and dramatic change?! Very disappointing!!
- Reviewed in the United States on September 27, 2019Although I understand it was to cover all of France, I was interested in Normandy which had very little coverage. Concentrated on Paris and south. There are better available.

1.0 out of 5 stars Decepcionante

5.0 out of 5 stars Great book
Great book which was recommended by a friend. Looks like it will be very useful for planning a holiday driving through France and is also lovely to dip into at random to find more about places. Arrived promptly in perfect condition.

2.0 out of 5 stars How you can ruin the best travel guide series?
I considered myself a DK Eyewitness Travel Guide fan since my wife gave me for Christmas one from Netherlands. I own two from Netherlands, two from Barcelona, Spain, Germany, Belgium, Norway, Denmark, and Sweden, all are old versions.
And....... now I bought France the new version. Let me tell you that this new design is a downgrade from the previous style. First, the paper and cover quality is very bad in comparison with the previous style. But the worse part is the internal change. There are less pages, so everything is more compacted, there are less photos, diagrams, and drawings. the description of many places is just a list of names with two short paragraphs without any photos. The "where to stay and where to eat" sections were modified and you cannot find it at the end of the book where they were very easy to access. The general feeling is that now the guide is a cheap guide no worth buying. I will keep buying the old guides, but I think if someone for first time grab one of these new guides, they will not buy it, and will keep looking in internet for online guides or blogs, what a shame.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great quality
Did not expect the guide to be as large and informative. Well worth the money.
