- Reviewed in the United States on May 18, 2020Bought this for a college course and like most college books I barely read it (gotten to a point where I post-pone buying textbooks all together). However, the book is useful if utilized properly and offers several resources regarding literacy. Great reference material for anyone interesting in teaching literacy.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 10, 2022I was introduced to this in 2006 and it's a work of art. It helps all children with reading and writing if they take it seriously and do the word sorts and games. Fun for MOTIVATED kids :)

- Reviewed in the United States on November 27, 2015An essential purchase for those using this method to teach reading. I had already picked up the word sort texts from another vendor, but this text provides vital instructor support. I would have preferred an instructor access code, however, instead of the student access code provided. Since the student online toolkit provides a generous assortment of games, assessments, videos, and additional resources, I didn't pursue the matter any further. Overall, an excellent resource for tutoring or teaching reading to elementary and middle school students.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 2, 2016Everything that you need that deals with word study is in this book. I personally believe that this book is essential for all teachers to have whether using it as a reference, for spelling inventories, interventions, lesson ideas and more. I would definitely recommend this book. It will make your job easier!

An interesting approach to assessment of spelling skills and an investigative approach to learning. Beware of American pronunciations- some need to be adapted a little, but not many.

3.0 out of 5 stars Don't buy this--get it from the library!
This is a decent reference book, but definitely look for it at your school rather than buy it. I did like the access code that came with the book so I could enter my students spelling assessments online and have them grouped automatically. However, accessing the Pearson site was ridiculously cumbersome and that subscription only lasted 12 months. I will continue to use the word sorts, but was very disappointed with the poor online access after paying so much for the book.
