- Reviewed in the United States on December 10, 2020I fell in love with this book in 1995 and it remains one of my favorites. The emotions felt and the character growth are realistic. I think of it as a quiet book, lacking the overly emotional, action-filled plots of many books written today. Cole may live a lifestyle most of us will never experience, but what he wants, the growth he and those around him experience, applies to us all. This is a go-to book for me. My only regrets pertaining to Alone in a Crowd are that I must give used books to those I want to introduce to Cole and Holly and that it is not available for my Kindle to bring with me on trips.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 22, 2009Cole Webster had had it. Done. Nada. Wanted to escape the controlling atmosphere his father created. He hated disappointing his brother and felt terrible about "not really feeling it" with the girl he was seeing but he just had to escape the mucic world for a while....or forever. He wasn't sure. The change in his appearance that his accident caused gave him a chance to see the world without having to "be Cole Webster".
He transforms more than himself in this experience and it's a very good read!
- Reviewed in the United States on January 15, 1999Cole Webster was a legend in country music when he was in a motorcycle accident that altered his appearance drastically. While he waited to heal, he stepped into anonymity and returned to what life was like before he became famous. It was somewhat of a culture shock to go back to the basics, but when he met Holly, love beckoned after the inevitable obstacles. Holly had no idea that Cole was who he was, and much later when she discovered his true identity, another crisis had occurred that threatened to separate them. The ending to this story neatly wraps everything up with an unexpected twist that will leave readers breathless and delighted at the same time. A must-read for music lovers, romantics, and optimists.
