Product Description

The town of Ludlow is in for some new, grave surprises ... Sometimes dead is better. But the shocking terror that plagued Ludlow, Maine, in Pet Sematary is still very much alive in this sequel to the 1989 hit film. After the death of his wife, veterinarian Chase Matthews (Anthony Edwards, Zodiac) and his 13-year-old son, Jeff (Edward Furlong, Terminator: Dark Fate), move to Ludlow to rebuild their lives. Antagonized by the neighborhood kids, Jeff befriends another outsider, Drew Gilbert, who lives in fear of his cruel stepfather, Gus (Clancy Brown, John Dies At The End). After Gus cold-bloodedly shoots Drew's beloved dog, the boys bury the body in the local Indian burial grounds – a place rumored to have the powers of resurrection. But when evil is awakened, the boys realize that sometimes you should just let dead dogs lie.

Great movie, be careful with the DVD box

Great movie, be careful with the DVD box
The movie plays great, it was just off of the holder in the box when I got it, so it was a little scratched. It didn't skip whatsoever and I had no problems playing it in the DVD player.

"Pet Sematary Two" was released theatrically August 28, 1992 to dismal reviews and poor box office grossing 17.2 million in comparison to the the 1989 original which grossed 57.5 million and received better reviews.

I hated "Pet Sematary Two" when I saw it in a theater back in 1992. Even though it was also directed by Mary Lambert who helmed the first film in 1989, the markedly different tone and just plain odd structure and pacing of the sequel left me sorely disappointed. The odd thing is that over the years, I have found myself liking the 1989 original film less and the 1992 sequel much more with subsequent viewings. "Pet Sematary 2" has developed a devoted cult following over the years and while the film certainly has some obvious problems, there are plenty of individual things that I like quite a bit; the best of which being Clancy Brown's gloriously over the top performance. Edward Furlong had the lead role and was a hot commodity in Hollywood after his role in 1991's classic "Terminator 2: Judgement Day". He does a decent job in "Pet Sematary Two" but occasionally comes across as dull and flat performance wise. I think that time has been surprisingly kind to the film and a lot of people like myself were not expecting the heavy doses of dark humor present in the film when it was originally released back in 1992.

Scream Factory brings "Pet Sematary Two" to blu-ray with style in a fully loaded collector's edition. The disc features a brand new 4K scan of the original negative in its original 1.85:1 aspect ratio utilizing the AVC codec at an hefty bit rate averaging 36 mbps. While the film has always had a bit of a deliberately soft focus look to it at times, simply put "Pet Sematary Two" looks amazing. Detail is superb, colors while a bit muted as part of a stylistic choice during filming look natural, color/black levels are on point, and the natural grain structure is intact with no signs of any digital noise reduction or sharpening being used. I doubt this movie will ever get a 4K UHD release, so unless that ever happens, Scream Factory's edition is quite possibly the best this movie has ever looked.

Audio wise there is a choice between 5.1 DTS-HD and 2.0 DTS-HD. I watched the movie with the 5.1 track and thought it sounded great with the dialogue, music and sound effects evenly mixed. English subtitles are included for the hearing impaired.

Special features are as follows:
- NEW Audio Commentary With Director Mary Lambert
- NEW Young And Brooding – An Interview With Actor Edward Furlong (13 min. 32 sec.)
- NEW Playing Over The Top – An Interview With Actor Clancy Brown (21 min.)
- NEW My First Film – An Interview With Actor Jason McGuire (24 min. 23 sec.)
- NEW A Thousand Dollar Bet – An Interview With Special Makeup Effects Creator Steve Johnson (15 min. 51 sec.)
- NEW Orchestrated Grunge – An Interview With Composer Mark Governor (29 min. 32 sec.)
- Original Theatrical Trailer (1 min. 33 sec.)

For the first three months, a slipcover with newly commissioned artwork. The actual sleeve for the case can be flipped around to have the original theatrical poster.

Fans of "Pet Sematary Two" should be over the moon with Scream Factory's collector's edition blu-ray. The movie looks amazing, sounds great, and the special features are extensive and informative. Highly recommend!

I really enjoyed the 32 year old Pet Cemetery 2. It was like watching a horror movie that could occur in real life. It was also great to see the former ER Doctor, Anthony Edwards and the bad guy actor, Clancy Brown on the screen again. I have a sprinkler serviceman who looks exactly like Clancy.

Haha flipping through the channels on TV, I saw this and it said "Pet Sematary", I didn't see the 2 and I was like, "Is this the new Pet Sematary movie? Oh no wait, no, it can't be...that's the guy from Shawshank Redemption, and he's young, so this can't be it!" Anyway it was good enough for me to watch twice on TV, and then rent and watch twice on here, so how bad could it be? I don't want to give anything away so I won't say much more but hey it was entertaining! Okay maybe Clancy Brown made it a LITTLE better...just a little.

The biggest problem with this movie is that it just didn't take itself seriously enough. The story line has SO MUCH POTENTIAL and the beginning of this movie was really good. However, things go downhill fast as far as the screenplay is concerned. Eventually the movie even devolves into some sort of slapstick comedy. The movie rebounds back from it's slapstick dredge a bit, but never completely. Even so, the damage had already been done. If they'd just have taken the story more seriously and gone for an R rating this film could have been really great. Acting and special effects were good enough, especially for the era. I'd call for a remake, but based on how the last Pet Sematary remake went, maybe it's better if the series was just left to rest. (Ba dum tss!)

Pet Sematary II was just so much better than the original. It just had my attention from the very beginning. I was drawn into it and everything that was going on. Well done.
