The Midwives of Lark Lane: An absolutely heartbreaking historical family saga (Lark Lane Series Book 4) Kindle Edition
All’s fair in love and war… but what happens when the war is over?
After the heartbreak of World War Two, newlywed midwife Cathy hoped Liverpool life would offer some joy. But a terrible miscarriage and the escape of her abusive stepfather Jack from prison make happiness hard to find.
Meanwhile, Cathy’s beloved granny is ailing. Whilst at the hospital, Cathy sees her midwifery friends, who are planning to open a home for unmarried mothers. After losing a baby of her own Cathy would love to help, but for now, she must take care of her grandmother.
As her granny’s health worsens, she writes Cathy a letter. The day her grandmother dies, Cathy goes home and opens the envelope: Thank you for giving me a reason to live. Everything I have in the world is yours now, my darling. Cathy is devastated but determined to honour her granny’s memory, hoping the maternity home can be her legacy.
Just as Cathy and her friends are about to open their doors to the first expectant mothers, Jack is spotted in Liverpool. It’s only a matter of time until her cruel stepfather catches up with her, determined to pay her back for getting him locked up in prison. Can Cathy keep herself and her grandmother’s legacy safe, and see Jack sent away for good at last?

About the author
Pam Howes was born in Cheshire. She is an ex Interior Designer who began writing seriously in the mid nineties. The idea for her first novel, set in the sixties, was inspired by her time as a teenager, working in a local record store and hanging around with musicians who frequented the business. That first novel evolved into a series set in the fictional town of Pickford, based on her home town of Stockport. Three Steps to Heaven; 'Til I Kissed You; Always On My Mind; Not Fade Away, and That'll Be The Day, follow the lives and loves through the decades of fictional Rock'n'Roll band The Raiders. Pam is a big fan of sixties music and it's this love that compelled her to write the series. A stand-alone true-life romance, Fast Movin' Train, set in the nineties, was published in early 2012. Pam is mum to three adult daughters, grandma to seven assorted grandchildren, and roadie to one musician partner.
Pam recently signed a second contract with the award winning publisher Bookouture and the first novel in her new Lark Lane series, The Factory Girls of Lark Lane, will be published in July 2018.
Her first series for Bookouture - The Mersey Trilogy - is available in E book, paperback and as audio books.

This is the second book that I have read by this author, I enjoyed both of them. These books are well written, entertaining and kept me turning the pages. The characters were realistic that came alive. This novel had adventure, mysteries and down to earth family saga, that I enjoyed reading. I recommend this novel to everyone.
to LIFE.I am sure there are alot of people that think like me. Memories are hard to forget.
Just Fantastic,fantastic ♥️😚
The story follow Cathy, a midwife, Gianni her husband, and Lucy their daughter. The challenges of a newly married couple as they are separated at first while Gianni performs on the carnival circuit riding a motorbike and Cathy, a nurse, completes her midwifery education.
This brings in the colorful characters of Eloise and Maria. Eloise is the jealous ex girlfriend, and Maria Gianni's fortune telling stepmother.
Cathy works with her friends who are midwives at the hospital. They all dream of opening their own maternity hospital for unwed mothers and those that wish private accommodations for the birth of their child. With the help of the characters of Jimmy and Johnny this comes about.
In the midst of everything Cathy's grandmother passes away and Gianni is there to help her through her loss. It's only after Cathy's abusive stepfather escapes from prison and tries to harm Cathy that Gianni gives up the racing circuit and gets a job to stay home with Cathy and Lucy.
This book is filled with a lot of love, its share of drama and a bit of sadness. I would recommend the book.
Thanks to Pam Howes, Bookouture, and NetGalley for allowing me to read and review and advanced copy of the book.
I haven't read any of the other Lark Lane series but this book stood well on it's own.
Very enjoyable and reminded me of how much I loved working on the Delivery Suite at the RVI in Newcastle Upon Tyne, England.
